When students begin to feel overwhelmed, they now have a safe, supportive place to go. For example, one of my students who struggles with transitions has found comfort in using the wobble stool and bean bag chair. Instead of shutting down or leaving class altogether, this student now spends a few minutes regulating in the calm down room and then is able to return to class ready to learn.\r\n\r\nThe reaction from students when the materials first arrived was priceless. They were curious, excited, and most importantly, they felt seen—knowing that these resources were chosen with their needs in mind. Many asked, \"Is this really for us?\" and couldn't wait to try each seating option.\r\n\r\nOur next step is to integrate this space into ongoing lessons about emotional regulation, problem-solving, and self-advocacy. Students are learning not only to recognize when they need a break, but also to choose which seating or sensory support best helps them regulate. This empowers them with lifelong coping skills they can carry far beyond the classroom.\r\n\r\nYour contribution has created a ripple effect—helping students feel safe, supported, and ready to learn. Thank you for believing in them and in the power of education.","fullyFundedDate":1746785953988,"projectUrl":"project/sensory-friendly-seating/9092028/","projectTitle":"Sensory Friendly Seating","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. B","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9914014_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1738378917139","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9914014"},{"teacherId":9832945,"projectId":8936741,"letterContent":"Thanks to your generous support, our library's new LEGO Wall has become a true highlight of our learning space! The excitement was instant—students lit up the moment they saw it, crowding around to explore and create. The collaboration, critical thinking, and laughter that filled the room were exactly what we dreamed of when imagining this project. It's more than just a wall—it's a catalyst for curiosity and creativity.\r\n\r\nWe've started incorporating LEGO-based design challenges into our library programming, giving students the opportunity to problem-solve and present their creations. The next step is expanding this into school-wide initiatives, like \"Build of the Week\" challenges. Our students are gaining confidence in their ideas, working together in new ways, and most importantly, seeing the library as a space where innovation and imagination thrive. Our school building is over 45 years old, and that comes with some challenges in terms of our classroom climate. Students were beginning to complain about the humidity level in our classroom. Thankfully, a mentor told me about Donors Choose. Even more thankfully, you approved and donated to our project! Thanks to you, our classroom has a dehumidifier! \r\n\r\nThis coincided perfectly with our unit on data and trends for both my honors math students and my on level math students. For three weeks, my students have been collecting data on the humidity levels and temperatures in our room, as compared to humidity and temperature outside. They have learned to use Google Sheets for data collection. Every day, students race to be first into my class in order to have the honor of writing the data on the board for their classmates to record. Talk about engagement!\r\n\r\nAfter STAAR, students will learn how to use Google Sheets and Excel to turn their data into different kinds of graphs. Then, we will analyze the data for trends, outliers, and conclusions. The best part is, the students are INVESTED in their learning, because this dehumidifier is impacting their space directly. \r\n\r\nI am so grateful you saw potential in our project, and I appreciate that you poured into our students, bringing math to life, an making it applicable to the life of a 7th grader.","fullyFundedDate":1733798202496,"projectUrl":"project/humidity-hack-graphing-our-way-to-comfo/8990036/","projectTitle":"Humidity Hack: Graphing Our Way to Comfort","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Palesky","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-9_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/humidity"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_11531","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":819,"numTeachers":51,"percentFrplEligible":18,"percentAsian":30,"percentBlack":6,"percentWhite":43,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":13,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"6 - 8","studentTeacherRatio":"16.1:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":false,"titleOne":false,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"CITY_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":86.1,"schoolId":11531,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Schimelpfenig Middle School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Schimelpfenig Middle School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/texas/plano-independent-school-district/schimelpfenig-middle-school/11531"}
