You know you have chosen a good project when the students see the boxes come in and want to peek inside, so you let them and then every time you see them after that they ask you, \"Have you put the books out yet?\"\r\n\r\nThe excitement of these new additions to our library is wonderful. Out middle school library needs some new books and they definitely needed some more graphic novels. So, our students are super excited by the fruits of this project!\r\n\r\nMany people don't understand the logic behind graphic novels, most wonder why we have \"comics\" in our library. Well, it is important to remember that not every student learns to read right away and thrives as a reader throughout their educational career. Some kids really struggle with reading and those who usually do oftentimes give up completely on reading for pleasure, which is the worst thing they can do as reading for pleasure is a HUGE part of literacy. Graphic novels make reading approachable to EVERY kid! They can enjoy a graphic novel and not feel like they failed as readers.\r\n\r\nAnother reason graphic novels are important is because so many of our students lack the imagination to fully enjoy a great story - technology has robbed so many children of their creative thinking. Many students will become interested in a series through a graphic novel and then they have the confidence and interest in tackling the actual novels. \r\n\r\nGraphic novels are a gateway to rich literary experiences for many kids - your funding of this project will support that journey!
