When I ask, \" Who wants to be my timer?\", it's a frenzy of hands that go up and pleading that it's their turn to be the timer. So I needed to come up with a better system because it's such a coveted job. There is also something calming for some students who are not timing anything; they just want to take a few minutes and zone out, watching the sand move from the top to the bottom. \r\nThese timers have helped the students take ownership of expectations by being able to see and say, \"Shhh, we only have 4 minutes left...\" \r\nWhen doing rotations, it has been so helpful that three stations can have a timer that the students have come to manage on their own. This also helps practice some level of patience.\r\n\r\nMany of my students wrote thank yous. I have them scanned for you, but to my surprise, I can not attach them here. :-(","fullyFundedDate":1766090630487,"projectUrl":"project/touch-the-passage-of-time/9833474/","projectTitle":"Touch the Passage of Time","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Nicole","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-1_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10313981"},{"teacherId":244020,"projectId":9764996,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for funding this project. It has had great impact on my students over the last few months. Students in my class are struggling learners who have to have an extra math group to help close the gap between their skills and grade level standards. We believe strongly that spending time on problem solving and confidence building will help close this gap in addition to the extra math work that we do. \r\n The building supplies and puzzles that you provided get used for the first 5-10 minutes of our group and as a result, students show up on time and are happy to be there. I can see their confidence, persistence, willingness to ask questions and take risks on math work is growing. They are building relationships and learning to think critically and have fun while doing math puzzles and building blocks with your funding. \r\n Students were so excited to unbox and try out the different materials. They love the Keva wooden blocks, Kanoodles and TOMYOU interlocking disks. I'm grateful to have enough materials to give them choice over what puzzles they use each day. Seeing students learn and explore with the hands-on materials is so rewarding. Our next steps are to use the materials with more students.","fullyFundedDate":1759519131039,"projectUrl":"project/building-blocks-puzzles-brain-games-f/9764996/","projectTitle":"Building Blocks, Puzzles & Brain Games for Math Lab","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. OConnell","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp244020_orig.jpg?crop=332,332,x289,y61&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1758921458983","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/244020"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_75414","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":728,"numTeachers":62,"percentFrplEligible":35,"percentAsian":1,"percentBlack":11,"percentWhite":59,"percentIndigenous":6,"percentLatinx":10,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"6 - 8","studentTeacherRatio":"11.7:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":false,"titleOne":false,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"CITY_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":84.6,"schoolId":75414,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Sanford Middle School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Sanford Middle School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/minnesota/minneapolis-public-schools/sanford-middle-school/75414"}
