These books have already had a big impact and I have no doubt that they will help to encourage new readers for years to come. Beginning chapter books (also called early chapter books or bridge books) have chapters but they are also shorter and have larger font and illustrations to help students decode new text or ideas. These books help students to build reading skills and also confidence, as they feel a sense of accomplishment when they finish a chapter book by themselves!\r\n\r\nI recently introduced the newly donated books to 2 - 4th grade students in library class. First I did one-minute book talks for five of them, and then I spread about 15 books on the rug in the middle of our circle. Students had one minute to \"get to know\" a book by reading the back and flipping through the pages before trading it for another book. This went on for a good ten minutes, and students didn't want to stop! Almost all of the students checked out one of the featured books that day. In subsequent lessons, I have read students \"teasers\" from the books to hook their interest, and it works! \r\n\r\nI sincerely appreciate your help with building up and library and encouraging future readers. Your gift will have an enormous impact for years to come.","fullyFundedDate":1750349720377,"projectUrl":"project/more-choice-with-early-chapter-books/9393364/","projectTitle":"More Choice with Early Chapter books!","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Wilson","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9549088_orig.jpg?crop=480,480,x0,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1716142098996","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9549088"},{"teacherId":9549088,"projectId":9288792,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for helping to make the Sanderson Library more accessible to students. As soon as the materials arrived they were put into use! The wobble chairs are used by students who benefit from alternate seating as per their individualized education plans. The book racks allow me to display more outward-facing books, which are almost always the books students choose when they browse for books. The moose puppet is waiting for its big debut, but I know that our youngest students will love to meet her when she finally comes out (especially since we had a moose walk across our school campus a couple weeks ago!).\r\n\r\nStudents love coming into the library, and the items that you donated helped to make the library an even more welcoming and accessible space. I look forward to acquiring more wobble stools, as they are very popular and help kids to focus while working at tables. My goal is to work on creating a space where students want to be, and to show them that a library is a positive space where they can always go to rest, relax, and get inspired by books and reading.","fullyFundedDate":1746565377765,"projectUrl":"project/library-accessibility-essentials/9288792/","projectTitle":"Library Accessibility Essentials","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Wilson","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9549088_orig.jpg?crop=480,480,x0,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1716142098996","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9549088"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_60767","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":125,"numTeachers":13,"percentFrplEligible":66,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":2,"percentWhite":94,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":1,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"Pre-K - 6","studentTeacherRatio":"9.6:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"RURAL","ncesMetroType":"RURAL_DISTANT"},"inStateSupporters":85.7,"schoolId":60767,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Sanderson Academy on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Sanderson Academy","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/massachusetts/mohawk-trail-regional-sch-dist/sanderson-academy/60767"}
