It is difficult to teach holistically when learning another language is based on grammatical rules in addition to fun and catchy phrases. One of them happens in the classroom, and the other happens, normally, in organic conversations. The hard part is finding that equilibrium between conscious and unconscious learning. I strongly believe that books and games provide an opportunity to create that balance. When I requested the books, I had planned to use them for the birthdates of the artist, but due to the timing, I have not had a chance to use them yet. For example, Diego Rivera's birthday is December 8, so I will incorporate it into next year's lesson plan. \r\n\r\nThe games have been very useful, however. Jenga pieces now have a pronoun and a verb on each side. One example is nosotros...cantar. For whatever verb tense the students are learning, they have to conjugate the verb to the pronoun. Spanish One would be nosotros cantamos (we sing) but Spanish Two would be nosotros cantábamos (we sang all the time/we used to sing.) \r\n\r\nThe other games, the snakes and ladders, has been so much fun. The students struggle a little with understanding the questions, but they willingly give it their best and little do they realize that they are having fun while learning! \r\n\r\nThe game the kids like the most is La Lotería, which is like Bingo. I do not show them the picture, however, until most of them have already found the word. These games have been a game-changer (excuse the pun) for the redundancy often found in a language class. \r\n\r\nI sincerely thank you for your generosity","fullyFundedDate":1733495148864,"projectUrl":"project/aprendiendo-espaol-es-divertido-learn/8716562/","projectTitle":"¡Aprendiendo Español Es Divertido! During this second half of the year, I wanted to build a weekly routine of at least one fun day, apart from lectures and taking notes. I created Fun Friday Reading for that purpose. I know it takes a way 4 days of instructional time of grammar and the unit in the book, but giving them something they can enjoy while learning is my ultimate goal.\r\n\r\nOne of the pictures describes what we are doing with this book. As there are 10 \"scenes\" or 1-1.5 - page chapters in this book, it will be an activity they can look forward to for 10 weeks. Each week the students will get into partners, look over the vocabulary, read the section aloud together, (twice if needed) and answer the four comprehension questions. If they feel they need to, they can then read the chapter in English. \r\n\r\nI am allowing them to write the answers in English. If they wish to get an extra credit point, they can attempt to answer in Spanish. \r\n\r\nToday was the first day, the first chapter, and after class several students said it was a great class. And because I didn't have to lecture, it also saved my voice. A win-win! Thank you again for giving my kids to opportunity to see that reading in Spanish can be fun!","fullyFundedDate":1735915216767,"projectUrl":"project/leer-en-espaol-es-divertido-reading-i/9023858/","projectTitle":"¡Leer en Español es Divertido!
