Because of your generosity, my students now have a safe, welcoming space where they can pause, reset, and return to learning ready to succeed.\r\n\r\nWhile many donors are familiar with using technology or tools at home, in the classroom these resources are used intentionally to support learning and emotional growth. The materials in our calming corner—such as sensory tools, visual supports, and structured calming activities—help students recognize their emotions and practice self-regulation strategies. When students are able to manage big feelings, they are more focused, engaged, and prepared to learn academically.\r\n\r\nThe most exciting part for students is having a space that feels like it was created just for them. They love choosing tools that help them calm their bodies and minds, and they take pride in using the space responsibly. The calming corner has quickly become a positive and empowering part of our classroom routine.\r\n\r\nSeveral students have especially benefited from this new resource. Students who previously struggled with emotional regulation now independently choose to use the calming corner before frustrations escalate. We have seen fewer disruptions, quicker recovery after challenges, and increased confidence as students learn strategies they can use both in and out of the classroom.\r\n\r\nYour support has made a meaningful difference in our students' daily lives. Thank you for helping us create a classroom environment where every child feels supported, understood, and ready to learn.","fullyFundedDate":1677175939890,"projectUrl":"project/calming-area/7121894/","projectTitle":"Calming Area","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Usher","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/272x272/tp5190860_272x272.jpg?width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1519252793509","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/5190860"},{"teacherId":5190860,"projectId":7924967,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for your generous support in providing a karaoke set for our classroom. Because of you, my students now have an exciting new way to express themselves, build confidence, and learn through music.\r\n\r\nWhile many families may use music or microphones at home for entertainment, in our classroom the karaoke set is a powerful learning tool. We use it to support reading fluency, language development, and public speaking skills. Students practice reading lyrics, projecting their voices, and performing in front of their peers in a supportive, low-pressure environment. Music helps make learning engaging and memorable, and it encourages even reluctant learners to participate.\r\n\r\nThe most exciting part for students is having the chance to perform and be heard. They love choosing songs, holding the microphone, and cheering one another on. The karaoke set has quickly become a favorite classroom activity and has helped create a joyful, inclusive community where students celebrate each other's efforts.\r\n\r\nSeveral students who are usually shy or hesitant to speak in class have especially warmed to this new technology. With the microphone in hand, they feel empowered and confident, often surprising themselves and others with their willingness to sing, read aloud, or present. We've seen growth not only in academic skills, but also in self-esteem and classroom participation.\r\n\r\nThank you for bringing music, laughter, and confidence into our classroom. Your generosity has made learning more engaging and has given our students a memorable experience they will carry with them.","fullyFundedDate":1697216506891,"projectUrl":"project/sing-a-song/7924967/","projectTitle":"Sing a Song!","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Usher","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/272x272/tp5190860_272x272.jpg?width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1519252793509","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/5190860"},{"teacherId":5190860,"projectId":7925707,"letterContent":"Thanks to your generous contributions, my students and I have been able to utilize the new resources in ways that have truly enhanced our learning environment. A simple but impactful example of this is the addition of new pens—colors beyond just red! Initially, my students were so excited when they first saw the variety of pens. They were thrilled to have the opportunity to use colors like blue, green, and purple, which made a huge difference in how they approached assignments and peer reviews.\r\n\r\nOne of the most memorable moments was when we did a peer review activity. Typically, students would feel a bit anxious about receiving feedback, but with the colorful pens, the atmosphere shifted. The pens allowed for more creative and positive feedback, which encouraged students to engage more thoughtfully with one another's work. Instead of just seeing red marks on their papers, they began to see a rainbow of comments that helped them feel motivated and supported.\r\n\r\nThe colorful pens also sparked a greater sense of ownership and pride in their work. They were excited to write, underline, and annotate using different colors, which made the learning process more dynamic and interactive.\r\n\r\nLooking ahead, these pens will continue to play a role in encouraging peer collaboration and reflection. In upcoming lessons, we'll be focusing on revising and improving drafts, where students will use the pens not only for peer feedback but also for self-reflection. The excitement and positivity that the students have already shown will undoubtedly carry over into these next steps, and I can't wait to see how their confidence and skills grow!\r\n\r\nOnce again, thank you so much for your contribution. It has had a tangible, positive impact on my students, and we are deeply grateful for your support.","fullyFundedDate":1706811992612,"projectUrl":"project/no-more-red-pens/7925707/","projectTitle":"No More Red Pens","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Usher","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/272x272/tp5190860_272x272.jpg?width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1519252793509","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/5190860"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_99126","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":361,"numTeachers":22,"percentFrplEligible":93,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":0,"percentWhite":2,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":95,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"6 - 8","studentTeacherRatio":"16.4:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"SUBURBAN","ncesMetroType":"SUBURB_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":88.1,"schoolId":99126,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about San Fernando Institute of Applied Media on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"San Fernando Institute of Applied Media","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/california/los-angeles-unified-school-district/san-fernando-institude-for-applied-media/99126"}
