This school year I transitioned back to the kindergarten classroom and was so excited to meet my new scholars! What a wonderful day it was to welcome students into a room, with a brand new carpet and communication center. \r\n\tThis year in Kindergarten we are doing a lot of learning. The rug is our central meeting area. We use this area for morning greetings, phonics instruction, and read alouds. Students work with partners and small groups on the rug. Students build with blocks and magnatiles during free choice on the rug. We consider the classroom rug our home-base. Our brand new rug is such a central part of the classroom. Thanks to your donation, we are able to do so much learning and playing in a fresh and clean classroom carpet.\r\n\tOur communication center has been central to our day. We start the day by signing in and putting our folders away. We use the communication center as a mailbox area. When students are finished with their work they find their mailbox and put their papers away. The communication station has given our students a sense of independence and responsibility in the classroom. With limited space this piece of furniture is truly an essential piece of our classroom environment.\r\n\tAs the year continues, I look forward to engaging my students in their learning. The new furniture for their learning environment will help them continue to have a successful academic school year. They eagerly learned how to use the materials at tools for helping to regulate their bodies and emotions before practicing using each of the materials. While only a few students have specified sensory learning needs we observed that practicing these skills was beneficial for all students at this age. It helps them learn skills that will become more and more necessary as they proceed through their schooling. \r\n\r\nThese materials support social emotional learning by allowing opportunities to talk about big emotions and feelings that effect our ability to learn. This is a continuous conversation in our classroom and we have connected the materials to many of the books we have been reading. We will continue this work through the end of the year as students develop different emotions around the ending of the school year.\r\n\r\nThank you for your support of this project. My students and I have really appreciated the opportunity to practice these skills using the materials you have supplied.","fullyFundedDate":1735657749205,"projectUrl":"project/i-sense-we-are-ready-to-learn/8936509/","projectTitle":"I Sense We Are Ready to Learn","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Kalaclar","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp5314843_orig.jpg?crop=1457,1457,x208,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1549561460687","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/mrs-kalaclar"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_62929","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":205,"numTeachers":18,"percentFrplEligible":87,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":54,"percentWhite":4,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":35,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"Pre-K - 5","studentTeacherRatio":"11.4:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"CITY_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":59.9,"schoolId":62929,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Samuel Mason Elementary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Samuel Mason Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/massachusetts/boston-public-schools/samuel-mason-pilot-elementary-school/62929"}
