Because of you, my students now have access to dictionaries and thesauruses that they use daily to strengthen their reading, writing, and thinking skills. These resources have already made a meaningful difference in how confidently students approach language and learning.\r\nWhile many people love reading books, teaching students how to read deeply is a whole different process. One of the most important skills these new tools have helped develop is independence. When students encounter an unfamiliar word, they no longer feel stuck or discouraged. Instead, they know how to problem-solve by looking up meanings, pronunciations, and synonyms. This builds vocabulary, comprehension, and confidence all at once. Thesauruses, in particular, have helped students expand their word choice and think more carefully about tone and precision in their writing. Looking up words has also helped promote stamina and attention to detail as finding the word they are looking for is a new skill.\r\nReading in our classroom is active and collaborative. Students read independently, in small groups, and as a whole class. You'll often see students pausing to look up words, discussing possible meanings with peers, or helping one another choose the best word to fit a sentence. What might seem like a small moment—looking up a word—often turns into a rich conversation about language and ideas.\r\nSeveral students who previously struggled with reading comprehension are especially enjoying these resources. They are more willing to take risks with challenging texts because they know they have support at their fingertips. I've also seen students who love working with classmates turn word-lookup into a shared activity, strengthening both their academic and social skills.\r\nYour generosity has given my students more than books—you've given them confidence, curiosity, and tools they will use far beyond this school year. Thank you for investing in their growth and love of learning.","fullyFundedDate":1762454487886,"projectUrl":"project/vocabulary-is-powerful/9654422/","projectTitle":"Vocabulary is Powerful!","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. DiResta","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp2089951_orig.jpg?crop=896,896,x0,y418&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1756246423548","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/2089951"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_60660","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":386,"numTeachers":43,"percentFrplEligible":78,"percentAsian":1,"percentBlack":3,"percentWhite":81,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":10,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"Pre-K - 6","studentTeacherRatio":"9.0:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"SUBURBAN","ncesMetroType":"SUBURB_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":83.8,"schoolId":60660,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Salisbury Elementary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Salisbury Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/massachusetts/triton-regional-school-district/salisbury-elementary-school/60660"}
