Novels are a wonderful way for children to explore a world different from their own and yet discover how they can have things in common with people from the past (Who Was Jim Thorpe; I Survived the Mount St. Helen's Eruption) or another country (The Invention of Hugo Cabret; A Long Walk to Water). The various genres gives the children a chance to figure out what type of literature they are more drawn to. They will create posters and poems about the themes and characters.","fullyFundedDate":1744252853516,"projectUrl":"project/humanity-through-novels/9247406/","projectTitle":"Humanity Through Novels","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Wamhoff","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp8502305_orig.jpg?crop=787,787,x65,y232&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1720504499056","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/8502305"},{"teacherId":8502305,"projectId":8487923,"letterContent":"One of the most difficult parts of teaching is knowing you can always do more and always buy more. Who knows where they will take it or how it will speak to them. I guide them through the standards and skills, but I hope each book will teach them to infer, discover, and hunger for more. \r\nI chose fairy tales, so students could compare traditional and modern tales. They have created movie posters, and alternate endings for each book. They sequenced the stories on a plot diagram and created poems about the characters.
