Getting to choose a sticker the first time a child steps foot into my room sets thing off on a positive note and helps me get to know the children by which stickers they choose.\r\n\r\nI also use the stickers in my classroom Positive Behavior Intervention & Supports (PBIS) system. My older students earn tokens by focusing and completing their work and making good choices. Then once a week or so, they can exchange their tokens for stickers. This keeps the rewards small, while giving them some agency in what they get for their reward. This also introduces the idea of saving up for something they want and making decisions like whether to get a single \"deluxe\" sticker\" or several \"bargain stickers\" with their tokens.
