Several of them flipped through the pages right away, excited to have a sturdy place to keep their math notes and practice work. One student said, \"This feels like a high school notebook!\"—and that pride in owning something durable has already made a huge difference in how they approach their learning. We used the notebooks the very same day to set up our Math Interactive Notebooks, and it was amazing to see students immediately take more care and ownership over their notes.\r\n\r\nThese notebooks have quickly become an essential part of our daily math routine. Students are using them to track their progress with rational numbers, write step-by-step explanations, and organize example problems they can return to later. They are also able to highlight key vocabulary, example, and rules without worry of it showing through the page. For students who sometimes lose loose papers or struggle with organization, having a reliable, well-designed place for everything has been a game changer. \r\n\r\nAs we move into our next unit on inequalities and proportional reasoning, these notebooks continue to support students in building strong, organized math habits. Your generosity has given my class more than just notebooks—you've given them a sense of pride, structure, and the tools they need to succeed. Additionally, the charging station has been a true game changer. It ensures that all devices remain charged, organized, and ready to use throughout the day, allowing students to transition smoothly into technology-based lessons without delays.\r\n\r\nI am equally grateful for the paper scanner, which has significantly improved the way I support students academically. Most of the sets included pre-made design plans—everything from race cars to windmills—and my students immediately began following the instructions, problem-solving together, and proudly comparing their finished creations. Even though these weren't free-build sets, they still inspired collaboration, focus, and joy. During indoor recess, students now eagerly choose a kit, find a partner, and get right to work—completely absorbed in hands-on creativity rather than screens.\r\n\r\nThese kits have quickly become a valued part of our classroom routine. During brain breaks, students use them as a calming, structured outlet to reset their minds. For those who struggle to stay focused, building step-by-step offers a sense of control and accomplishment. Fast finishers love the challenge of completing a new design before class ends, while others take pride in helping their classmates problem-solve tricky steps. What started as a simple classroom resource has become one of our favorite ways to recharge and connect.\r\n\r\nLooking ahead, I plan to keep integrating these LEGO activities into lessons that promote teamwork, patience, and spatial reasoning. Your thoughtful contribution has made a tremendous difference in helping students improve their focus and manage distractive behaviors throughout the day. The fidgets provide a healthy outlet for restlessness and excess energy, allowing students to keep their hands busy while staying attentive and engaged in lessons. This small but meaningful support has had a big impact on their ability to participate and succeed in a more focused learning environment.\r\n\r\nHaving such a diverse selection of fidgets has also allowed each student to find a tool that works best for their individual needs. Some enjoy the calming texture of soft, quiet fidgets, while others benefit from items that can be stretched or squeezed to release tension. This variety encourages self-awareness and independence as students learn to make choices that help them regulate their attention and emotions. With so many options available, distractions and competition over specific fidgets have decreased, creating a smoother and more cooperative classroom atmosphere.\r\n\r\nThanks to your kindness, our classroom has become a more inclusive and supportive space where all learners can thrive. Teachers have noticed fewer interruptions, better focus, and greater participation from students who once struggled to stay on task. Students have been able to connect with stories that reflect diverse experiences and perspectives, which has made our group discussions more interactive and meaningful. Many students have shared personal connections to the texts, and the excitement in the room during discussions shows just how much they are enjoying their reading.\r\n\r\nTo build on this engagement, students have completed book reports that highlight their comprehension and give them the chance to share their insights in creative ways. Their focus and involvement throughout the process has been outstanding, and it is clear that their effort has grown because they feel connected to what they are reading. These activities have helped strengthen not only their literacy skills but also their confidence in expressing their thoughts.\r\n\r\nReading has taken place both in the classroom and at home, giving students opportunities to engage with the texts in different settings. Silent reading in class has encouraged concentration and fostered a shared community of readers, while at-home assignments have kept students accountable and prepared for lively discussions the following day. Several students who used to feel anxious when they couldn't finish copying everything during class have shared how relieved they are to be able to check the online scans later. This simple tool has created a stronger sense of security and equity in our classroom, since everyone now has the same opportunity to access and review the material.\r\n\r\nThere are a few students who have especially benefited from this resource. When my new students walked in this year, their faces lit up at the sight of the fresh collection of books lining our shelves. From day one, the excitement around reading has been electric.\r\n\r\nIn the first few weeks of school, I highlighted some of the new titles on a feature table and gave short book talks to spark interest. Every student selected a book for independent reading, and many have already finished their first and eagerly moved on to the next.\r\n\r\nEach day, students spend at least 15 minutes reading in my classroom, and often much more throughout the day and at home. During this time, the room transforms into a calm, focused space where every student is deeply engaged in their book. Many carry their chosen books to and from school, excited to continue their reading beyond the classroom.\r\n\r\nI encourage students to choose books that align with their interests, and I regularly recommend titles based on conversations about their hobbies or past reading experiences. Already this year, a few students who previously said they didn't enjoy reading have become completely engrossed after being introduced to graphic novels. It's a powerful reminder of how the right book can change everything.\r\n\r\nAs we move through the school year, I conference with students about their reading, review their daily summaries, and guide them through short written responses. They also recommend books to one another, building a strong community of readers. Soon, we will launch our literature circles, where students will choose books based on their reading level and interests, set reading goals, and engage in peer discussions that deepen their comprehension and critical thinking.\r\n\r\nYour gift has already made a meaningful difference in our classroom. These books aren't just tools for learning. They are opening doors to new interests, new identities as readers, and new conversations. And they will continue to do so not only this year, but for many years to come.\r\n\r\nFrom the bottom of my heart, thank you.","fullyFundedDate":1742926626924,"projectUrl":"project/books-for-classroom-library/9151349/","projectTitle":"Books for Classroom Library","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Tognozzi","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp1250318_orig.jpg?crop=924,924,x1106,y2152&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1741582439874","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/1250318"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_29479","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":360,"numTeachers":null,"percentFrplEligible":78,"percentAsian":1,"percentBlack":0,"percentWhite":2,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":86,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"7 - 8","studentTeacherRatio":null,"demographicsDataSource":"MDR District Record","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":false,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":null},"inStateSupporters":96.1,"schoolId":29479,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Roseland Accelerated Middle School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Roseland Accelerated Middle School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/california/roseland-school-district/roseland-charter-middle-school/29479"}
