Your generosity has transformed how our students learn and engage with mathematics. I wanted to share the incredible impact your gift has already made.\r\n\r\nHow We're Using Your New Math Resources\r\nYour materials brought hands-on, interactive learning to life in ways worksheets simply cannot.\r\n\r\nA Specific Classroom Moment:\r\n\r\nLast Tuesday, I introduced base-ten blocks to teach addition with regrouping. Ayden one of our students who struggles with focus and abstract math concepts, immediately grabbed the blocks and started building. When I asked him to solve 17 + 15, instead of freezing (as he usually does with written problems), he physically built the numbers, grouped the tens together, and watched the answer emerge before his eyes. \"I see it now!\" he said with genuine excitement. \r\n\r\nTheir First Reactions Were Amazing\r\nWhen students first saw the colorful math materials—base-ten blocks, number lines, counting bears, fraction circles—their reactions were immediate and enthusiastic.\r\n\"Can we use these?\" asked one student, eyes wide.\r\n\"These are SO cool!\" another exclaimed. But here's what mattered most: that initial excitement translated into sustained engagement. Students who typically rush through math now linger at math stations, choosing to explore and practice with these materials during choice time.\r\nWhat's Next: Building on This Foundation\r\nWe're leveraging these resources to deepen learning in several ways:\r\n\r\nGuided Math Stations (May-June):\r\n\r\nStudents rotate through stations using different materials to practice skills\r\nOne station uses base-ten blocks for place value and addition\r\nAnother uses fraction circles to introduce halves and fourths\r\nA third uses number lines for skip counting and addition strategies\r\nThis differentiated approach lets each student work at their level with materials that support their learning\r\nProblem-Solving Projects:\r\n\r\nStudents are tackling real-world math challenges: \"If we have 24 crayons to share among 4 groups, how many does each group get?\" They're using your materials to model and solve these problems. This builds both computational fluency AND critical thinking.\r\nThe Deeper Impact\r\nBecause of your donation, something shifted in our classroom. Students now see math as something they can do—not something that happens to them. Struggle became a normal part of learning, not a sign of failure.\r\n\r\nYour materials gave every learner—from our most advanced to our most struggling—a way to access, understand, and own mathematical thinking.\r\n\r\nThank you for investing in our students' mathematical confidence and success.","fullyFundedDate":1762010889449,"projectUrl":"project/mathematics-matters-to-your-child/9545879/","projectTitle":"Mathematics Matters to Your Child","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Robin Anderson","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp6145922_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1564671606501","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/robbin-anderson"},{"teacherId":3215224,"projectId":9625880,"letterContent":"Thanks to the generosity of our donors. The arrival of these items sparked immediate excitement as students explored how each resource would support their adventure and safety at camp.\r\n\r\nStudents used the walkie talkies to communicate across campsites, the first aid kit for minor needs, and rain ponchos and bug repellent bands to stay comfortable in changing weather conditions. The foldable wagon helped transport supplies, while water bottle stickers allowed students to personalize their gear and take ownership of their belongings.\r\n\r\nThese resources enhanced student confidence, preparedness, and enjoyment, turning the camping trip into a safe, memorable, and meaningful learning experience. Stocked with cupcakes from classroom celebrations, ice pops in the freezer, and Powerade for an upcoming field trip, the refrigerator became a resource that enhanced student experiences while meeting both academic and social-emotional needs.\r\n\r\nStudents took an active role in maintaining the refrigerator by helping to clean it out regularly and organizing its contents. They collaboratively posted reminder signs to encourage cleanliness, proper storage, and respect for shared space. I love to see them caring and sharing resources with each others and members of the school community. They were able to share the refrigerator with teachers in the teachers' lounge, reinforcing a sense of mutual respect and community partnership. \r\n\r\nOverall, the refrigerator supported student engagement, reinforced life skills such as organization and responsibility, and contributed to a positive school culture centered on collaboration, care, and shared ownership of resources. The reusable water bottles and Powerade were essential in helping students stay hydrated throughout a long, physically active day at the adventure park. Students independently refilled their bottles, shared reminders with peers to drink water, and demonstrated an increased awareness of listening to their bodies in the heat. It was indeed a brutal outdoor day with increasing temperatures, so the hydrations efforts were in full effect. \r\n\r\nWhen first receiving these materials, students were excited, curiosity, or and even distracted from their work. Many showed appreciation and care—asking questions about proper use, ensuring lids were secure, and keeping track of their items throughout the day. \r\n\r\nAlthough these students have since graduated, the experience remains a meaningful highlight of their elementary school journey. The trip represented more than just an outing—it was a celebratory adventure that marked the closing of an important chapter in their school years. Upon returning to school, students were able to cool down with freezer pops, which provided immediate relief after a warm and active day. \r\n\r\nOverall, the use of these resources enhanced student engagement, comfort, and enjoyment, contributing to a memorable and impactful experience that students continue to associate with positive school memories and shared success.
