One of the items that was on my list was a pizza counter. The kids have really loved using this and it is a great tool for my classroom. Some kids have a hard time coming to school so they will come to my classroom first as a soft place to land. We will play with the pizza counter as a way for them to calm down and feel comfortable at school so they can transition to class. I also use it to get to know the kids that I will be working with. Playing with the pizza counter is a way to get to know each other. Playing is kids work and a way for them to work through some things.\r\n\r\nThe book Worry Warriors has different breathing techniques to help kids self-regulate. Each class in our school came to my room last month and we practiced using some of the breathing techniques in the book. It was so wonderful to hear the feedback from the kids. They talked about how relaxed they were and how much better they felt after doing that. \r\n\r\nThe Kleenex boxes have been very helpful as well because many of the kids I work with are going through very hard things and there are many tears at times.
