Kids especially liked the fractions pieces and the ability to work at their own pacing to get the right answers.\r\nMy kids were very excited when they first saw the boxes arrive to our classroom. My school is extremely high poverty, and the kids do not have very much home support or encouragement. Also. most of our math manipulatives are online which doe not help the children that are tactile learners. Math is best enriched when we can see it and touch it. As they grow up, they will be able to revisit the quilt mural and reflect on the artwork they contributed.\r\n\r\nMost of these students don't often have opportunities to talk about their dreams or aspirations. The majority come from broken homes, and receiving this grant gave them a chance to express themselves in ways they often cannot at home. It promotes character development, creativity, and integrity.\r\n\r\nMy students were thrilled with the instant film camera. They were eager to learn and to explore photography on their own. The camera and the art project brought them so much joy.\r\n\r\nDuring their art projects (I have a dream too-MLK), many students said they wanted to become art teachers. This project inspired them—just as I was once inspired—to pursue that path.\r\n\r\nI am so proud to be able to provide this experience for them. I wish I had something like this growing up, but I'm grateful to be able to share my dream art project with my students.","fullyFundedDate":1739827023283,"projectUrl":"project/connected-voices-a-black-history-tessel/9096343/","projectTitle":"Connected Voices: A Black History Tessellation","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Consoli","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9887740_orig.jpg?crop=398,398,x0,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1736455082731","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9887740"},{"teacherId":9887740,"projectId":9040427,"letterContent":"We've been so excited to explore the new resources in our classroom. Students used them to create personal art zines—mini booklets filled with their own illustrations, stories, and reflections. For Valentine's Day, we also incorporated the dry clay to sculpt and paint heart-shaped bowls, which allowed students to explore three-dimensional artmaking in a meaningful and heartfelt way. These projects not only strengthened their technical skills but also encouraged self-expression and creativity.\r\n\r\nWhen students first saw the new materials—like the Sharpies, paint markers, and the beginnings of our small classroom art library—they were absolutely thrilled. Many of them had never used paint markers before and were completely captivated by the vibrant colors and smooth application. Their excitement was contagious. Some students were so inspired that they began creating their own art zines at home and proudly shared them with the class. It's been incredibly rewarding to see their confidence and curiosity grow.\r\n\r\nLooking ahead, we're preparing for our art show on May 8th. As part of the event, students will have the opportunity to exchange their art zines with members of the community at the public library. This next step connects their learning to a broader audience and gives them a real-world opportunity to share their voice through art. We're so grateful for these resources that have made this kind of learning experience possible.","fullyFundedDate":1737937200359,"projectUrl":"project/little-free-library-empowering-young-mi/9040427/","projectTitle":"Little Free Library- Empowering Young Minds Through Art and Literacy","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Consoli","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9887740_orig.jpg?crop=398,398,x0,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1736455082731","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9887740"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_29436","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":851,"numTeachers":74,"percentFrplEligible":95,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":80,"percentWhite":5,"percentIndigenous":1,"percentLatinx":5,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"K - 12","studentTeacherRatio":"11.5:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"CITY_SMALL"},"inStateSupporters":52.6,"schoolId":29436,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Rocky Mount Preparatory School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Rocky Mount Preparatory School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/north-carolina/north-carolina-department-of-education/rocky-mount-preparatory-school/29436"}
