I explained that kind people wanted them to have fun during physical education. They clapped and cheered!\r\n\r\nStudents take the balls outside every day for our PE block. Most of the students had never thrown a football or learned how to use a soccer ball. They have had a lot of fun working in teams, passing, kicking, and bouncing the balls. Students had to learn the rules of how to play games with the balls. Not only are the kids getting exercise every day, but they are also learning how to work together, share, and play fair.\r\n\r\nMy students and I appreciate your generosity and kindness. Our class didn't have any PE equipment of our own. We had to use whatever old, flat, and dirty balls were left in the hall cabinet. They were overjoyed!\r\n\r\nFor many of the students, this was their first experience throwing a football and bouncing a basketball. My students love their new books. When I revealed what was in the boxes, the students cheered and jumped up and down. During the week, students have multiple opportunities to read the books. Every day after recess, students quickly begin D.E.A.R. (drop everything and read) Time. This is a time for them to read for enjoyment. Students also participate in Book Talks with their Buddy of the Week. The buddies spend time reading to each other. They also discuss story elements.\r\n\r\nEach week three students are selected to be a Star Reader. The Star Reader gets to read their book to the whole class.
