My students were so excited when we opened up the parachute and they saw how big it is! I love taking my students outside for music class and we have already done so many fun listening activities with it. One day, it was pretty windy outside and we took the parachute out anyway. The kids had so much fun trying to keep it under control for our listening activity. We eventually ended up sitting on the ground holding onto the parachute so it wouldn't fly away and we laughed until some of us had tears running down our cheeks. It was one of those bonding moments that students remember for a long time. One of my autistic students who struggles with cooperative activities, loves the parachute so much that he will put up with the students next to him just to be able to hold onto the parachute. \r\n\r\nOur weather has been very snowy lately and we haven't been able to spend much time outside. Yesterday I began introducing the stretchy band to my students. I thought it would be a great indoor activity when we were not able to be outside. I have only used it with a couple of classes so far and they absolutely love it! I used it with kindergarten yesterday and today. We sang Jingle Bells and used the stretchy band two different ways to demonstrate the two different sections of the song. I was able to see which kids were hearing the change between the sections and which were struggling with that. The band worked well for the students who weren't hearing it right away as they couldn't help but follow what the other kids were doing. They quickly caught on to switching their movements for the different sections of the music and some of them began anticipating the change before it happened. We also did a movement activity with a video using music from The Nutcracker. There was music from 4 different parts of the ballet and each section of music had a different type of movement attached. Students had to listen and change their movements according to which music clip was playing. Occasionally, the Mouse King would appear on the video and they had to freeze. We had so much fun that I don't think they even knew they were working on their listening and coordination skills!","fullyFundedDate":1757511800341,"projectUrl":"project/music-and-movement/9667203/","projectTitle":"Music and Movement","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Meerdink","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9533692_orig.jpg?crop=2316,2316,x0,y316&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1725626672773","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9533692"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_21110","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":395,"numTeachers":32,"percentFrplEligible":55,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":0,"percentWhite":93,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":1,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"Pre-K - 6","studentTeacherRatio":"12.3:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"RURAL","ncesMetroType":"RURAL_DISTANT"},"inStateSupporters":78.9,"schoolId":21110,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Robert H Jackson Elementary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Robert H Jackson Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/new-york/frewsburg-central-school-district/robert-jackson-elementary-school/21110"}
