Through our lessons and activities, they explored the many ways kindness can be given and received, and how small acts can ripple outward to touch many lives.\r\n\r\nOne of the most meaningful parts of our project was building relationships with senior penpals. Each month, students wrote letters filled with care, curiosity, and encouragement. Over time, these exchanges became more than writing practice—they became connections that lifted spirits on both sides. Students began to see how kindness could improve someone's mental health and well-being, and in return, they experienced the joy that comes from making a positive difference.\r\n\r\nIn May, the students had the unforgettable opportunity to meet their penpals in person. It was a pivotal moment—full of smiles, hugs, and even tears of compassion. The seniors shared how much the letters meant to them, and the students could see firsthand that their words had truly mattered. Earlier in the year, students had crafted winter gifts—a candle holder—and at the spring meet-and-greet, they presented sun catchers. Watching the joy those handmade gifts brought to their penpals was a powerful lesson: when we bring joy to others, our own hearts are filled as well.\r\n\r\nNone of this would have been possible without your generosity. Your donation provided the writing materials, journals, stationery, and art supplies that made our project so special. Students delighted in using beautiful papers and envelopes for their letters, treasured their journals for reflecting on kindness, and poured their creativity into making gifts for their penpals. These supplies were not just materials—they were tools for building empathy, joy, and meaningful connections.\r\n\r\nBecause of you, the ripple of kindness extended beyond our classroom—through our students, their senior penpals, and into the wider Davis community. For this, we thank you deeply.","fullyFundedDate":1722376235516,"projectUrl":"project/weaving-compassion-and-kindness-into-our/8508854/","projectTitle":"Weaving Compassion and Kindness Into Our Teaching","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Fogliasso","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp2458717_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1658504803800","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/noellefogliasso"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_41075","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":507,"numTeachers":21,"percentFrplEligible":14,"percentAsian":25,"percentBlack":1,"percentWhite":45,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":12,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"Pre-K - 6","studentTeacherRatio":"24.1:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":false,"titleOne":false,"metroType":"SUBURBAN","ncesMetroType":"SUBURB_SMALL"},"inStateSupporters":91.3,"schoolId":41075,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Robert E Willett Elementary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Robert E Willett Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/california/davis-joint-unified-school-district/robert-e-willett-elementary-school/41075"}
