We have been studying engineering and STEM. Without proper tools, my students were not getting to amazing education that they deserve! It is one thing to explain how force causes working parts to move, but the movement, according to Newton's Laws causes an equal and opposite reaction.\r\n\r\nBy donating to my classroom, students were able to build their own \"walking\" projects where they got to design and then build their own prototypes! They were able to brainstorm and sketch out their ideas and then actually build them. By having the final step within their grasp, they were able to take that project even further and were able to see flaws in the design as it was built. They were able to critically think about their design flaws and find creative ways to fix them!\r\n\r\nIn addition to the \"walking\" projects, they were also able to build bridges and skyscrapers and not just see them on television and videos. They were able to test their designs as they went through various events including earthquakes, floods, etc. As they were able to change their designs to fit into different areas, realizing that some places need dampeners for earthquakes, but not every place does! On behalf of myself and my incredible students, I want to extend our heartfelt thanks for your generous support of our special education reading area. Your donations have made a lasting and meaningful difference in the lives of our learners, and I am thrilled to share the growth we've witnessed thanks to your kindness.\r\n\r\nBecause of your support, we were able to enhance our reading corner with engaging books, sensory-friendly seating, adaptive materials, and literacy tools tailored specifically to meet the unique needs of our students. What was once a small section of our classroom is now a warm, inviting, and effective space where students are excited to learn and feel empowered to grow.\r\n\r\nOur students—many of whom face daily challenges in communication, literacy, and confidence—have shown incredible strides in both reading and writing over the past few months. Several students who previously struggled to recognize letters are now reading simple sentences independently. Others, who were reluctant to write even a few words, are now proudly composing short stories with beginnings, middles, and ends.\r\n\r\nOne of the most touching changes has been in our students' attitudes toward reading. The environment your donations helped create has sparked a genuine love of books. During free choice time, many now head straight to the reading area to explore new stories, practice their sight words, or read aloud to a classmate. We've seen growing curiosity, improved focus, and a wonderful boost in self-esteem.\r\n\r\nYour contribution also allowed us to introduce tools that accommodate various learning styles, such as visual storyboards, phonics games, and voice-assisted technology. These resources have opened doors for students who learn differently, giving them the tools they need to connect with language in meaningful ways.\r\n\r\nWe've also seen improvements beyond the classroom. Parents have shared stories of their children reading signs during car rides, writing notes at home, and asking to visit the library—milestones that once seemed far off, but are now being reached with pride.\r\n\r\nNone of this would have been possible without your generosity. You didn't just donate funds; you gave our students opportunities, encouragement, and a sense of possibility. You helped turn a simple classroom area into a powerful space of discovery and growth.\r\n\r\nFrom every student who's learned a new word, every child who's found joy in a story, and every young writer who's dared to put their thoughts on paper—we thank you. Your impact is real, visible, and deeply appreciated.","fullyFundedDate":1735678886414,"projectUrl":"project/mrs-as-special-education-reading-area/8730086/","projectTitle":"Mrs. A's Special Education Reading Area","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Albaugh","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9723158_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1752292297883","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9723158"},{"teacherId":8343283,"projectId":8493388,"letterContent":"I hope this message finds you well. I am writing to express my heartfelt gratitude for your generous donation of dry-erase boards to our classroom. The impact of these boards on my 7th and 8th grade students has been truly remarkable. \r\n\r\nSince introducing the boards, I have noticed a significant increase in student engagement. The interactive nature of using dry-erase boards encourages my students to participate actively in lessons. They love writing their answers, sharing ideas, and collaborating on group projects. This has fostered a supportive learning environment where students feel comfortable expressing themselves. \r\n\r\nAdditionally, the boards have enhanced our ability to visualize complex concepts in subjects like math and science. I can easily demonstrate problems, and students can follow along and practice in real-time. This hands-on approach has boosted their confidence and understanding, leading to improved academic performance. \r\n\r\nYour contribution has not only equipped our classroom with essential tools but also inspired my students to take ownership of their learning. Thank you once again for making such a positive difference in their education.","fullyFundedDate":1721753128018,"projectUrl":"project/lets-erase-these-old-chalk-boards/8493388/","projectTitle":"Let’s Erase These Old Chalk Boards!","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Willis","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp8343283_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1645835270471","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/8343283"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_39108","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":476,"numTeachers":37,"percentFrplEligible":95,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":3,"percentWhite":90,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":0,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"Pre-K - 8","studentTeacherRatio":"12.9:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"RURAL","ncesMetroType":"RURAL_REMOTE"},"inStateSupporters":47.6,"schoolId":39108,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Williamson Pre-Kindergarten - 8 School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Williamson Pre-Kindergarten - 8 School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/west-virginia/mingo-county-school-district/riverside-elementary-school/39108"}
