It was often difficult to encourage them to pick up a book during independent reading time.\r\n\r\nSince adding these engaging and high-interest books to our classroom, students are now eager to read, share recommendations with classmates, and talk enthusiastically about their favorite stories and characters. The books have helped create a positive reading culture where students feel more connected, confident, and inspired as readers.\r\n\r\nYour kindness has made a meaningful impact not only on their academic growth, but also on their love for learning. The moment the books were received, we went straight to cataloging and labeling so that students can begin checking them out as soon as possible. The first week they arrived, I held a Meet the Books library session. I set out all the new books on tables in groups based on lexile levels and genres. So many kids were excited about the Fly Guy series, The One and Only Ivan, New Girl, Diary of a Wimpy Kid series and the Harry Potter series. As of right now, these books and the Spanish Dog Man books are being heavily circulated and there is a queue to borrow the books! \r\n\r\nI have noticed a new level of engagement with the addition of these new titles. Since there were very few relevant Spanish titles in our existing catalog, I would see our Spanish only speaking students going for non-fiction books with mostly pictures or children's books with very few words. We did not have the necessary literature for them to supplement their English learning or supporting their Spanish learning either. With the new Spanish books, they are able to read in their own language and their Spanish reading levels but also read an easier English book. This way, they can read something fun they can understand while also reading a book that supplements their learning. \r\n\r\nStudents are also actively reading out loud to themselves or to their friends. Students are pairing up with an English version of Dog Man and the Spanish version so that they can read together. I have noticed that they compare the words used in both books and they help each other understand what the translations mean. I have also seen an increase in the number of books that are renewed more often and titles that are read completely to the last page! Students have been excited to write book reviews on the new titles. \r\n\r\nI cannot express how truly thankful I am to you for your support. You have helped foster a new reading culture in our library by giving our students the chance to access new books! Students are eager to read, understand, write and share about what they are reading. Our quiet students are coming out of their shells, our Spanish readers are feeling supported and all students are seeking more literature.
