My students were extremely excited to utilize their calming area. Currently, we have not only used it as a calm/quiet area but also as our reading area. On certain days we utilize the area as alternative seating and complete simple task that keep the area clean and comfortable. I have had several teachers come into my room asking if they can just sit and relax in our calming area during their planning block. Many have even said it was a great idea and are thinking about how to arrange their classroom to include a calm/quiet area. \r\n\r\nBefore placing the items within the classroom I spoke with my students about the items. We talked about the seating and why it was important to not jump on the bags and how these items were gifts. The students explained to me how it was important to take care of things people give to you, in case you need something else they wouldn't mind helping out again. I placed the items in the room on a Friday afternoon so the students would see it first thing Monday morning. Upon entering the room Monday the students were excited and ready to sit in the area. If I can remember correctly they set in the area for about a week straight completing assignments and reading quietly. I had to finally have them come back to their regular seats and put in a time frame for us to use the area. So, as you can see they really love it. Again, thank you so very muchwe definitely enjoy our donations.","fullyFundedDate":1723478656966,"projectUrl":"project/oh-the-places-we-can-relax/8552680/","projectTitle":"Oh, The Places We Can Relax!","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Johnson","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-3_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9625965"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_11460","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":771,"numTeachers":67,"percentFrplEligible":73,"percentAsian":1,"percentBlack":29,"percentWhite":46,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":11,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"7 - 12","studentTeacherRatio":"11.5:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"SUBURBAN","ncesMetroType":"SUBURB_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":64.0,"schoolId":11460,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Richland High School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Richland High School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/mississippi/rankin-county-school-district/richland-high-school/11460"}
