I opened these items in small groups and we discussed how we were going to use the them following week when we started our 4th Quarter Letter/ Sound manipulation of beginning, middle and ending letters, along with blends and digraphs. Our first use with them involved consonants and vowels, then we moved to the blends and digraphs. They got so good at manipulating the sounds and letters within days. I just finished using them on our assessment and it made the process much easier. My principal loved seeing the students excitement and ability to use them effortlessly during an evaluation. Next year I plan to use them when we start our CVC words and when we are spelling our sight words during small group. \r\nI am going to use the I Can Read books when I finish bench marking them so they will be using the correct books for independent reading time. They loved just looking at the books when they came to small group! Next year these books will be handy as I will know the level they are, and be able to have students use these when they are in small group rotations. For many of them, having a new book to look at each time they visit a stations is an exciting experience!
