We received the materials from your incredibly generous match at the very end of the last school year, and our immediate goal this year was to transition into a new, dedicated STEAM workshop. This required us to spend our first eight weeks establishing essential classroom management routines—our \"game structure\" and the 3 B's (Be Respectful, Responsible, Problem Solver)—before introducing complex tools. This necessary delay means the impact is only just beginning, but it is already profound.\r\n\r\nThe moment the students first saw the professional-grade Chopsaws was transformative. The reaction, from 1st through 5th grade, was one of respectful awe and immense curiosity. We immediately held a short \"experiment show-off\" to demonstrate the precision and safety protocols of the saws. That brief moment elevated our students' expectations, making the tools the ultimate symbol of the high-level Engineering work they are striving toward. This excitement is now leveraged as motivation; students know that mastering our routines and our Metacognition skills is the pathway to using this powerful equipment.\r\n\r\nThe chop saws are the absolute key to achieving the goals we set for our next project cycles. Having a dedicated tool for precision cutting allows me to shift instruction from simple cardboard prototyping (which we did on the cart) to multi-day, complex Applied Engineering projects in our new room. This resource ensures that our students learn authentic skills like measurement, budgeting, and iteration—the core of the Engineering Design Process (EDP). Thank you for investing in the future of our program and enabling a level of precision and real-world relevance we could only dream of before.","fullyFundedDate":1746786427395,"projectUrl":"project/cardboardcreations-from-mind-to-design/9326793/","projectTitle":"CardboardCreations : From Mind to Design to Take Home Creations","teacherDisplayName":"Mr. Haley’s STEAM","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9975042_orig.jpg?crop=1125,1125,x0,y101&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1742920458047","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9975042"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_63579","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":679,"numTeachers":42,"percentFrplEligible":95,"percentAsian":4,"percentBlack":4,"percentWhite":32,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":53,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"1 - 5","studentTeacherRatio":"16.2:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"SUBURBAN","ncesMetroType":"SUBURB_MIDSIZE"},"inStateSupporters":67.9,"schoolId":63579,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Reingold Elementary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Reingold Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/massachusetts/fitchburg-public-school-district/reingold-elementary-school/63579"}
