We use dry erase supplies every day, so getting replacement parts and pieces really helps. I have also expanded my CandyLand game cards this week to include more phonics topics. I upcycled some CandyLand boards and game pieces to make this familiar game teach phonics skills! Thanks to you, word cards were laminated for multisyllabic words the /ou/ sound, multisyllabic words with a soft c /s/ sound, and word cards highlighting words with the long a sound spelled with \"ai\" or \"ay.\" My students had so much fun playing a game while did my weekly progress monitoring with them one-on-one! And everyone was excited to see the entire Harry Potter series and several Goosebumps books in my classroom library. My library is growing with a range of series, authors, and topics. I'm working hard to catch the interest of ALL readers!\r\n\r\nSo thank you, from my whole heart, for donating to such a worthy cause: KIDS! These ever-so-helpful 4th and 5th graders wanted to help. When I asked what they wanted me to include, I got many responses:\r\n\r\n\"Thank you for giving donations so that we can have a bunch of sports chapter books.\"\r\n\"It's great to have more than one book for each sport because so many kids like the same sport.\"\r\n\"Wow! You even have girls' sports books!\"\r\n\"I like seeing girls on the covers of books about sports.\"\r\n\"We have a series of books about soccer. That's so cool!\"\r\n\"I like having all the sports books in one bin. It's easier to find them.\"\r\n\"When do we get time to read again?\"\r\n\r\nAs a reading intervention teacher, it's important to have books available for my students to read. It's even more important that they are books that appeal to their interests. When I asked my students where we had \"holes\" in my classroom library, the students--both boys and girls--responded with, \"We want more books about sports.\" Thanks to you, we have a bin in my classroom library filled with books about sports of all kinds! As one student exclaimed, \"I found a book about ALL the sports that I play!\"\r\n\r\nMy students \"book shop\" and choose their own books. These books are stored in their groups' cubby...just waiting to be read when we get done with a lesson early, or I have one-on-one testing to do. But because I only have each student group for 30 minutes each day, the chapter books can't be too lengthy. Students would never get to finish a novel! The Jake Maddox series of sports books are the perfect length for my student population.
