Rather than relying solely on worksheets or traditional lessons, my students are now more engaged and excited to participate. The materials have turned learning into something they genuinely look forward to. And, of course, the snacks (not pictured because they disappeared so quickly!) were an absolute hit. While they served as an effective reward system, they also held a deeper significance. In the past, I would have had to send students to another location. Now, I have the option of using the calming corner within my classroom first.\r\n\r\nOverall, the reading/calming corner has been a wonderful addition to our classroom! Not only are they arriving to class on time, but these students have been significantly more productive. \r\n\r\nIn fact, several teachers in my building have acquired flex seating through these projects, and students have commented on how \"all my teachers have bean bags now\" and \"it's so awesome, no cap.\" Students notice these efforts, and it makes a difference in how they become part of the classroom culture.\r\n\r\nAdditionally, the snacks have been a HUGE HIT. There is a significant amount of families facing food insecurity in my district, and I know these students, especially in my 7th hour, who appreciate the caloric boost right before athletic practices. We see on average over 200 students a day in our office between the 4 Deans and having items that the students can fidget with when they are sitting in our office is exceedingly helpful.\r\n\r\nDue to the generous donation we were able to give fidgets to our front conference room where we meet with students and their parents on a daily basis. Each of the four Dean's office is equipped with containers of fidgets to be used by students throughout the day. The conference room in the Dean's office has fidgets for students when we meet with them, set-up mediations, etc. Finally we put fidgets in our CARE room where students are for the entire day working on assignments.\r\n\r\nWhile fidgets may seem like a small gesture for high school students, it really does make a difference.
