Students demonstrated a deeper understanding of the vocabulary because they had to explain each word clearly, choose examples, and connect the word to real-life situations. Rather than memorizing definitions, they internalized the meanings by preparing to teach them in their own voice. Many students also improved their pronunciation and comfort with academic language as they practiced speaking for their recordings.\r\nThe podcast project also noticeably increased student engagement and ownership. Students were excited to use technology and motivated by the idea that their classmates would hear their work. This encouraged them to revise their scripts, choose precise language, and think carefully about how to communicate clearly. Collaboration improved as well—partners worked together to plan, rehearse, and support each other through the recording process.\r\nAnother clear impact was the support this activity provided for diverse learners. Students who typically struggle with written tasks were able to show their understanding through speaking, and several expressed more confidence after successfully producing their episode. High-achieving students also benefited by extending their skills, transforming formal definitions into meaningful explanations. The finished podcasts became a class resource, giving students a student-created study tool that helped reinforce vocabulary long after the project ended.","fullyFundedDate":1755576925955,"projectUrl":"project/podcast-for-math-and-science/9518984/","projectTitle":"Podcast for Math and Science","teacherDisplayName":"Mr. Rico","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-2_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/8509682"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_17186","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":538,"numTeachers":43,"percentFrplEligible":95,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":6,"percentWhite":2,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":88,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"Pre-K - 6","studentTeacherRatio":"12.5:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"CITY_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":75.7,"schoolId":17186,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Rankin Elementary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Rankin Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/texas/arlington-independent-school-district/rankin-elementary-school/17186"}
