When I told the students we were getting the badminton equipment they were so excited! Only a handful had ever played it before but all were excited to get the chance at learning new skills! They have become experts at setting up the nets and they take great care in putting the equipment away! Serving has been tricky but they are getting better everyday! My students love them. They were so excited when they saw them delivered to our classroom. They couldn't believe people donated them to our classroom! I explained that there are so many kind people willing to help students get what they need to make learning fun! \r\n\r\nSo far, my students have been able to grab one and move to a quiet space in the classroom to read a book or work on a class assignment with a partner. They have partnered up to read books on them, and some just sit and listen to a classmate read a book that may be too hard for them to read. I am extremely happy to receive these seats. We now have enough for half of the class to use them at one time. We have rotated using them and everyone is excited to get a chance to relax on a comfy seat to do some reading or class work. Now, students can't wait for our reading or independent work time. They know they are not stuck in a desk. They have been inspired to create simple sentences to creative stories. Since receiving our new equipment, I have been able to teach volleyball, kickball, basketball, and Rainbow Tag! The students loved learning the new games! The pinnies made it easier to recognize the members of the 2 different teams. This made playing basketball and kickball less confusing! The volleyballs we received were perfect for learning how to pass correctly without the sting! The volleyball nets are nice and sturdy! Having 2 made it easier to get more playing time in! We used the flags to play Rainbow Tag. They made it easier to know for sure who was tagged! \r\n\r\nNow that the basics have been taught, I can't wait for the spring to continue playing these team sports! Next on the agenda is flag football!
