It's like magic. \r\n\r\nMagic that is happening because of you. My library has grown so much, is able to hold so much value to my students, because of the generous donor's on this site. I've had some great discussions on the Salem Witch Trials and Underground Railroad in particular. It's an experience I could not have given him before, without your generosity to my school and it's students.\r\n\r\nWhen kids can find the books they want, they read. When they see themselves in the books, find their own or similar stories reflected back at them, it affirms their importance and their belonging. When they see others stories, find an open window into worlds that might otherwise be unfamiliar to them, it affirms the importance and belonging of their classmates who have different cultures and backgrounds. Adding these books is one step in creating a future where everyone knows and can assert their own value. We are building readers, but most importantly growing some really great humans. Charming illustrations, bright covers, and a lovely bridge to the actual classics. So far the most popular are The Hobbit adaptation and the Anne of Green Gables manga, with the Jungle Book manga not far behind-but they've all gotten some love. I've had several 'reviews' that the Noir version of Snow White, with it's soft water color style illustrations is 'peaceful' to read. It's lovely to see the kids connect with stories that trace back through decades. As more and more graphic novel adaptations of books seem to be coming out, I'm looking forward to seeing this section of my library grow.\r\n\r\nIt's led to increased interest in the traditional versions of some texts, as well. The Lord of the Ring's series has had many more checkouts! And I had enough requests for Anne that I had to add another copy to the library! We are growing readers in this library, dear donors, and I could not do it without each of you. It is amazing when my students are able to find a book or series that they adore; they get excited, I get excited, it's like a little mini-party. And we have these great books because of each of you! You guys are the reason for all this book joy! Thank you!\r\n\r\nWhen you give kids what they want to read, whatever it is, they will read. Being able to add horror, thrillers, and true crime, books that were so very wanted, helps me build readers. It lets my students know that when they tell me what they want I will listen and do my best to get it for them, that their wants and needs are important and worth being fulfilled. The collection development I've been able to do so far is something I expected to take many years, but instead it's happening now.
