It is absolutely perfect! My old school had drums like these, but the manufacturer has improved the design. The drum we purchased through Donors Choose has a stable, sturdy base that should withstand use by children. We will have this drum for many years to come!\r\n\r\nSo far, I have used the drum with my students with special needs. It is easy for the students to play, and they love it! Our PTO is buying additional drums as well. By August, I hope to have enough drums to engage a large group of students simultaneously. I will use the drums with all students in grades 2-5, as well as my students with special needs who attend music in their separate setting class.\r\n\r\nThank you, donors, for your ongoing support of our music program. My students absolutely LOVE them! I started by using them with my students with special needs. I divided the class into two groups and passed out bells for the tonic and dominant chords for a simple song. I used visuals to cue the students when to play, and the students did quite well! I've never had the students in my adaptive classes play a harmonic progression in this way before. It was unchartered territory for us! The desk bells are very easy to play, and they are colorful and inviting. The students were excited to make music on a new pitched instrument, and I was delighted to hear them play a chord progression.\r\n\r\nAfter using the bells with my students with special needs, I tried them out on my second graders. What a hit! We used the bells to perform melodies with play-along videos on YouTube. Each child was responsible for a pitch, and they had to play their pitch at just the right time. Working together, the students played the melodic line while the video provided the accompaniment. The students felt like rock stars!\r\n\r\nI appreciate your generosity with this project. My third and fourth graders will use the melody bells next.
