I know it's an old cliche that every dollar counts but it holds true in our school. Each and every cent makes an enormous difference for our kids. Your generosity is felt everyday in the classroom. The simplest and cheapest have been incredibly helpful in lessening the chaos in classes. The organizational materials such as the two carts, ziplock bags, and storage bins have been so very helpful. I always feel silly talking about the importance of organization with my students; never underestimate the impact order and structure has in a classroom. It is an easy solution in taming small inefficiencies during everyday tasks. A clear ziplock bag simply creates routines for students. All the individualized educational materials for each student is placed in a ziplock bag then labeled with masking tape. \r\n\r\nSince November, we have started growing plants in our hydroponic tower garden. It's been exciting watching the plants change and grow. We've used the donated organizational container to contain the seeds and other gardening materials. \r\n\r\nMost of my students from J47 are nonverbal so I don't get the typical bright eyes, wide smiles, or soft screams of new items being present in class. But I see it in other ways, the students are calmer because their instructional materials are ready for each hands-on activity. They are able to identify their items because they are in organizational bins. The two carts create a job for students to pass out material and take inventory of everything. This daily life skill of making sure we have everything we need and helping others is so valuable in class and life. \r\n\r\nFinally, the board games! For my older, verbal, higher functioning students, this has been so useful (during Friday clubs) to help them manage their emotions while playing. They're not only developing important social skills like taking turns and managing emotions, but also enjoying moments of fun and connection. The fact that it's giving them a break from screens and fostering genuine, face-to-face interactions is priceless. For this, I thank you endlessly.","fullyFundedDate":1737048406243,"projectUrl":"project/mental-space/8922977/","projectTitle":"Mental Space","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Kwan","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-4_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9827827"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_18776","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":null,"numTeachers":null,"percentFrplEligible":89,"percentAsian":14,"percentBlack":10,"percentWhite":61,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":9,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"US Census Data for the surrounding geographic area","gradesServed":"Not specified","studentTeacherRatio":null,"demographicsDataSource":"Census ZCTA","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":false,"metroType":"UNCLASSIFIED","ncesMetroType":null},"inStateSupporters":53.2,"schoolId":18776,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about 721M @ J47 on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"721M @ J47","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/new-york/district-75-city-wide-programs/ps138-j47/18776"}
