We've integrated the math games into our daily lessons, turning what used to be a challenging subject into an engaging activity. I remember one particular moment when a student who always struggled with PEMDAS suddenly grasped the concept while playing one of the games. The excitement and confidence boost were priceless. The pens and fidget toys have also been a game-changer, helping students stay focused during independent work, and the snacks ensure everyone has the energy to participate and learn. Looking ahead, we're building on this foundation with an exciting project-based learning unit. Students will use their newfound math skills to design and budget for their own mini-businesses. This project will not only reinforce their understanding of key concepts but also foster creativity, teamwork, and problem-solving skills. Your contribution has laid the groundwork for this innovative learning experience, and we're incredibly grateful for your support in helping our students reach their full potential.","fullyFundedDate":1758203010312,"projectUrl":"project/encouraging-progress/9456829/","projectTitle":"Encouraging progress","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. covay-parkes","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-6_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9740990"},{"teacherId":41763,"projectId":9895318,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for supporting my classroom library. Many 8th graders tried fruits, nuts, and whole grains, which broadened their understanding of what a balanced diet could look like. This exposure helped break down barriers of unfamiliarity and encouraged students to be adventurous eaters, while also showing them that healthy foods could be flavorful and satisfying.\r\nEventually students began incorporated these foods into their own diets and incorporated new healthy foods into their daily lives.\r\n\r\nStudents expressed that eating nourishing foods made them feel more positive and emotionally balanced, reducing irritability and stress during the school day. This connection between nutrition and emotional well-being reinforced the idea that food is not just fuel for the body, but also a foundation for mental health. Several expressed feeling more energized, less sluggish, and improvement in concentrate. I also observed improvements in participation, attentiveness, and stamina during lessons which I believe were linked to these changes. In addition, this prompted students' to reflect on their own traditions, helping them see how their cultural foods could be adapted or celebrated in healthier ways. \r\nUltimately, the project demonstrated that access to healthy foods was transformative. This project expanded students' palates, boosted their energy and focus, and strengthened the link between nutrition, academic success, and emotional resilience.","fullyFundedDate":1728309968290,"projectUrl":"project/promoting-healthy-eating-habits/8734172/","projectTitle":"Promoting Healthy Eating Habits","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Bennett","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-10_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/ms-bennett-gps"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_2108","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":562,"numTeachers":43,"percentFrplEligible":79,"percentAsian":1,"percentBlack":83,"percentWhite":0,"percentIndigenous":1,"percentLatinx":8,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"K - 8","studentTeacherRatio":"13.1:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":false,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"CITY_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":84.3,"schoolId":2108,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about PS/IS 270Q Gordon Parks School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"PS/IS 270Q Gordon Parks School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/new-york/new-york-city-dept-of-ed/ps-is-270/2108"}
