Our 4th graders are full of curiosity and creativity, and your support is giving them the incredible opportunity to connect science, nutrition, and teamwork through meaningful, hands-on cooking experiences. With the safe, kid-friendly kitchen tools you've provided, students can now confidently prepare simple recipes using produce from our school garden and ingredients that reflect the diverse food traditions of our community.\r\nYour contribution made our first cooking lessons truly memorable. We began by learning about health and safety, then explored a variety of salsa recipes. The children voted for their favorite, planned out their steps, and eagerly prepared for our first cooking event. They practiced math vocabulary such as 1/2, 1/4, and ratio, calculated how many times to multiply the recipe, and worked together to check ingredients and supplies. Their investment in the process—and their excitement—grew each day.\r\nWhen cooking day finally arrived, the room buzzed with anticipation. Students used their new plastic safety knives and cutting mats to chop tomatoes, onions, limes, and cilantro. Everyone had a role, and each child felt proud and accomplished as we gathered to share our very first dish.
