Thanks to your kindness, we received all of the materials we needed, and I've already begun to see the positive impact on my students.\r\n\r\nHere's what's changed:\r\n\r\nImproved Classroom Hygiene\r\nWe have built a regular hand-washing routine into our day. Before lunch, after recess, and any time hands get dirty, students head to the sink, use the soap and sanitizer, and wash up properly. Because of the new supplies, we no longer run out, and I don't have to worry about students skipping these important steps.\r\n\r\nHealthier, Happier Students\r\nFewer kids have been complaining of stomachaches or sniffles lately, and I suspect it's thanks to our more consistent hygiene practices. When students wash their hands well, they bring fewer germs into class, and that means less passing around of yucky viruses. It's made our class a safer, healthier space for everyone.\r\n\r\nEmpowered and Responsible Learners\r\nWe are also using the hand-washing posters and hygiene charts to help students understand why this matters. They're learning that taking care of themselves is part of being responsible citizens — and they take pride in it. Some of my older students even help remind their peers when it's time to refill supplies or clean up.\r\n\r\nI want you to know that your gift is not just about soap and sanitizer — it's about building healthy habits, reducing illness, and creating a classroom where students feel safe and respected. Your generosity sends a powerful message to these children: someone believes in you and your well-being.\r\n\r\nThank you, from the bottom of my heart, for investing in my students. Because of you, we are making our classroom a happier, healthier place — one clean hand at a time.","fullyFundedDate":1758813145113,"projectUrl":"project/healthy-hands-happy-classroom-hygiene/9651251/","projectTitle":"Healthy Hands, Happy Classroom: Hygiene Supplies for Students","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Curley","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9121840_orig.jpg?crop=1675,1675,x151,y12&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1690552300179","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/sebnemcurley"},{"teacherId":9802607,"projectId":9655667,"letterContent":"Thanks to your generous support, our technology class for students with special needs has been transformed into a more engaging, inclusive, and hands-on learning environment. The addition of Legos, fidget toys, a printer, and a bean bag chair has made a noticeable difference in how our students interact with technology and each other. These tools help bridge the gap between abstract concepts and tangible learning, allowing students to explore coding, design, and problem-solving in ways that feel natural and fun.\r\n\r\nThe Legos have been especially exciting for our students—they're not just building structures, they're learning the basics of engineering and collaboration. Fidget toys have helped students stay focused during lessons, giving them a sensory outlet that supports their attention and emotional regulation. The bean bag chair has become a favorite spot for students who need a calming space to work independently or decompress. One student in particular, who previously struggled with transitions, now eagerly participates in class activities and uses the bean bag area as a safe space to reset and re-engage.\r\n\r\nThe printer has also opened up new possibilities for creativity and communication. Students are now able to print their digital designs, making their work feel more real and rewarding. Whether it's a Lego blueprint or a personalized graphic, seeing their ideas come to life has boosted confidence and pride in their accomplishments. Whether they're building, writing, or listening, these resources offer choices that promote focus, comfort, and independence. It's been especially helpful for students who benefit from tactile input or need movement breaks, allowing them to participate more fully without disruption.\r\n\r\nWhen the materials were first introduced, students were visibly excited and curious. Many explored the textures and functions right away, and several commented on how calming or \"fun\" the items felt. There was a sense of ownership as they selected what worked best for them, some gravitated toward quiet fidgets, others preferred weighted items or flexible seating. The self-regulation materials you helped provide—such as fidget tools, calming jars, emotion cards, weighted lap pads, and mindfulness resources—have already made a tremendous impact on how we start, transition through, and end each day.\r\n\r\nHow We're Using the New Resources\r\n\r\nWe've integrated the tools into our daily routine in a meaningful and intentional way. One specific project we've been working on is our \"Feelings Check-In & Calm Corner Routine.\" Each morning, students start their day by selecting an emotion card that best describes how they're feeling. If they're experiencing strong emotions like anger, sadness, or anxiety, they know they have the option to visit the Calm Corner—an area filled with your donated materials.\r\n\r\nFor example, one student who used to struggle with transitions between activities now takes a 3-minute break with a glitter jar and a weighted lap pad. Afterward, they are more focused and ready to participate. Another student has learned to use the breathing cards and squeeze ball to calm themselves down before asking for help, instead of shutting down or getting frustrated.\r\n\r\nFirst Reactions: Pure Joy and Curiosity\r\n\r\nThe day we unveiled the materials was unforgettable. The students' eyes lit up as they explored the sensory bins, flipped through emotion books, and tried out fidget items. Several students excitedly said things like, \"Can we really use these every day?\" and \"This feels like a place I can go when I need a break.\"\r\n\r\nOne of the most touching moments was watching a student who typically has difficulty expressing emotions pick up a set of emotion cards and point to \"frustrated,\" then calmly say, \"That's me right now.\" For this child, who usually shuts down, this was a major breakthrough.\r\n\r\nNext Steps: Building Emotional Intelligence\r\n\r\nCurrently, we are working on a classroom project called \"Emotion Experts.\" Students are learning to identify not just how they feel, but why they feel that way, and what strategies help them return to a calm state. They are creating small posters to teach others how to use tools like breathing exercises, sensory objects, and self-talk strategies. Eventually, we'll be presenting these projects to other classes to help promote a school-wide culture of emotional awareness and regulation.\r\n\r\nYour donation didn't just bring materials—it brought empowerment, peace, and the tools to help students succeed socially and emotionally.
