As our school is a title one school, many of the families of the students in my class simply do not have the funds nor resources to help with their children's sensory needs. The items that you have helped to bring to my class have helped my students greatly especially since they need tactile tools to help them focus and learn. \r\n\r\nSince the delivery of the supplies, my students have learned how to regulate their emotions and channel their excess energy through different mediums. Students with fine motor needs benefited greatly from larger tactile materials especially with items like the triangle crayons. With a new faster laminator, I have been able to create more laminated materials to support student learning both in class and at home. These tools have allowed students to access lessons and learning through multiple entry points and in a manner that is the most comfortable for each individual learner. \r\n\r\nWe are so thankful to the Steven & Alexandra Cohen Foundation for fully funding my project and supporting student learning!","fullyFundedDate":1758899259198,"projectUrl":"project/sensory-tools-to-help-young-minds-focus/9729721/","projectTitle":"Sensory Tools to Help Young Minds Focus and Thrive","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Chiu","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9594393_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1726438247664","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/learnwithmschiu"},{"teacherId":8561058,"projectId":9511209,"letterContent":"Your wonderful gift of kickbands, alternative seating, calming stickers, calming koala, and fidget and sensory items have brought so much excitement to our classroom. For this project my goal was to be able to purchase larger items for my classroom that would help when it came to working with students in smaller groups, creating a warm and welcoming morning meeting area for our phonics lessons, being able to move around the classroom and have access to mobile marker boards without having to struggle to rearrange furniture, etc. The mobile marker boards are absolutely incredible and have made teaching even better as I can move around the classroom at ease with my materials including the large chart paper as well. The students LOVE their classroom carpet and are participating more now that they are able to get out of their seats and relocate for different lessons. As adults we don't want to be stuck sitting at a desk all day long and need to move around from time to time, and this carpet allows for a cozy experience while continuing to work together as a group.\r\n\r\nOther Smaller (But Super Helpful) Supplies\r\nThe organizer carts and bins have allowed me to create a much more organized system for all student work (both upcoming and completed). \r\nThe label sheets allow me to continue to make custom labels for student books and stickers as a fun reward. \r\nBoth the large digital clock and count down timer allows students to start understanding their daily schedules and routines. \r\nLaminating sheets, Elmers glue, and large pushpins were other materials that are constantly used and needed replenishment for future projects and crafts to be hung in the classroom.\r\nNoise Monitoring stop light: this was a little bonus. Our little ones are visual learners, and I thought this would be a fun way to help control the noise levels in class so they always easily know what's allowed and expected of them during each lesson / activity.\r\nExtra headphones were also added due to having more students enrolled in the school and making sure there were enough for each student to have access.\r\n\r\nLike I always say, supplies and materials add up and it can become very overwhelming for one person to take on. With Donors such as yourself, you've given me support in the classroom every day and I will be forever grateful for your kindness and help. For the teachers, the following materials listed on this project allowed me to supply each teacher with pens, pencils, laminator sheets, printer paper, paperclips, and staples to get them started for at least the first few months of school (and hopefully even longer). The printer, ink and paper have and will continue to allow me to do extra printing for classroom and grade activities, worksheets, reminder flyers, custom worksheets, etc. Even though the previous supplies of course are still also a help for the students in many ways, the following materials were / are a direct supply for the students: crayons, dry erase markers, erasers, pencils, and pencil cases. With these materials I was able to fill all of the pencil cases so they were able to easily start off the school year with the basic supplies needed for everyday classroom use. The teachers on our grade were and still are beyond grateful and pleasantly surprised when I brought in each of the supply kits for their classes. This allowed each classroom to shift into school routines and activities immediately whether or not students had / ere able to bring in their own supplies, each classroom has enough supplies for every student.\r\n\r\nIn our school many families struggle financially. Some feel comfortable expressing their struggles while others are more private, but this project allowed me to supply every student without any family having to feel defeated / struggle to make sure their child has what they need in their classroom. \r\n\r\nThanks to your support and generous donations, I was able to put together wonderful kits for each of our students and their teachers to start off our school year the best way possible. We all know how important education is and making sure we set up each child for success and although some people may see this as a small way to help, please know that it was a HUGE way to help and support our children and their educational experiences.","fullyFundedDate":1752179495235,"projectUrl":"project/helping-our-grade-not-just-my-classroom/9354873/","projectTitle":"Helping Our Grade, Not Just My Classroom","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Meckl","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9718425_orig.jpg?crop=552,552,x0,y16&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1741838851148","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/melissa-meckl"},{"teacherId":9718425,"projectId":9167161,"letterContent":"Every year I'm constantly placing orders for different supplies for my classroom on Amazon. Whether it's to replenish pencils, laminator sheets, printer ink, printer paper, crayons, markers, etc. I try to make sure I find the best deals so I can purchase what I feel is necessary throughout the school year in my classroom. The struggle is the financials add up over time and can feel overwhelming. The amazing donors that join Donors Choose to support teachers all over have lifted a huge financial weight off my shoulders so I can focus on simply making the most use of the supplies and materials in my classroom for my students. My favorite is laminating sheets. I'm ALWAYS laminating something because if I can do the work once and keep it long term that means I now have more time to work on other / new projects instead of doing the same things over and over again each year. This is also great for creating reusable sheets when it comes to writing and math. In first grade we love to use dry erase markers, so we limit the number of copies we have to print for certain activities and easy way to practice. For example, when solving a math problem, I can create a worksheet that allows students to show their work with the different strategies we're learning in class and use this erasable sheet to show their work and make easy corrections with plenty of space (sometimes their workbooks don't have enough room)\r\n\r\nSo, not only have you helped financially when it came to purchasing the supplies, but you've also given me more time to create and put together materials for my class and help them even more and that means to world to me. There are so many teachers in the world and I'm so appreciative to have been one that was able to have my project funded. I created this project because not every student is able to purchase the supplies they need for school, let alone extra supplies now such as headphones. As we continue to move forward with more use of technology, headphones are important when it comes to reading practice in being able to listen to stories being read to students or recording their reading practice to help collect data on their levels and fine tune areas for improvement, etc. Without the headphones only 2-4 students max at a time could go on their ipads and would have to be spaced out to separate corners of the classroom so they can focus best and not interfere with other classmates listening / recording. \r\n\r\nFor this project, not only did I want to collect enough headphones for my class, but the entire 1st grade. I work with an incredible team of first grade teachers and we are always finding ways to help one another so each classroom has the best opportunities. This project allowed me to help supply every student on our grade with headphone and supply each classroom with a bunch of headphones with microphones for testing purposes. They were so excited, surprised and grateful for the supplies and also express their thanks.\r\n\r\nWithout wonderful donors like you, this year would have been a struggle.
