When the new microscopes, magnifying glasses, and plant growing kits arrived, the excitement in the room was contagious—my students couldn't wait to dive in and start exploring. These curious young scientists immediately began asking questions, making predictions, and examining everything from leaves and soil to tiny bugs they found during recess. It was incredible to see their faces light up as they looked through a microscope for the very first time and realized just how much detail exists in the world around them.\r\n\r\nThese new tools have transformed how we approach science in our classroom. With hands-on access to real lab equipment, students are learning to observe carefully, ask deeper questions, and make connections between what they see and the scientific concepts we're studying. We've already started a unit on ecosystems, and the students used the Sprout & Grow Windows to watch roots form and plants grow in real-time. Thanks to your generous support our class is developing a lasting love for science and discovery. We're excited to continue this journey, and we can't wait to see where our curiosity takes us next!","fullyFundedDate":1758078861109,"projectUrl":"project/a-closer-look-exploring-the-microscopic/9676672/","projectTitle":"A Closer Look: Exploring the Microscopic World","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Stair","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-5_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/5024728"},{"teacherId":5024728,"projectId":9299936,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for supporting our class community service project inspired by Service Stars. Watching our students take pride in their efforts and share their creations with the community has been truly heartwarming. The WH Bingo and category activities have been a big hit, and my students get excited when it's game time, often without realizing they're practicing important language skills. The answer buzzers add a fun, competitive element that keeps everyone motivated and involved, especially during group sessions. When the materials first arrived, their eyes lit up with curiosity and joy. I've laminated custom visuals and sorting cards to make them durable and reusable, which supports our ongoing goals. The manipulatives have been especially helpful for allowing students to categorize, label, and sort vocabulary in hands-on, meaningful ways. The room is also being used for recess time for the little ones in 3k and 4k who love to use the swing and the crash pad. \r\n\r\nI am also able to create more engaging activities now with the resources I have. My next steps for this classroom is to hopefully make it a full sensory room for the school to use for students in crisis, students who just need the space and all students who use it and pass by it all the time it can be a calming place. My students have become much more excited to go to physical education and reach their goals. The students who have been working on their sportsmanship and social interaction have been improving substantially all due to the resources we now have. We work in a primarily low income Title 1 elementary school. Our caseload is comprised of students with special needs ranging from autism, to stuttering and a multitude of language disorders that negatively impact their academic functioning in and out of the classroom setting. \r\n\r\n Your donation helped to supply our students with hands on sensory materials that keeps their attention and allows them to make learning fun while gaining the necessary skills needed for communication. We used the kinetic sand and playdough to bring some light and fun to our speech therapy sessions and help to engage our children to maintain focus and attention even when skills were difficult for them.","fullyFundedDate":1735139731202,"projectUrl":"project/sensory-fun/8771993/","projectTitle":"Sensory Fun","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Caputo","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-9_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/8819676"},{"teacherId":8087775,"projectId":8753444,"letterContent":"Thank you for your donation which has allowed some great resources for my students that has been utilized during their speech therapy sessions already and will continue to be used. Some examples of items received has been fantastic sensory toys that have not only been a motivator for students but has also been a fun way for students to target goals. For examples, the kinetic sand toys have been utilized for my students to practice forming letters and making letter sounds in a different way rather than just writing letters. Instead, students have been shaping letters using this fun kinetic sand that they enjoy and is easily malleable for them to practice with. Simultaneously, I have used the wooden ABC's within sessions to teach students the alphabet, as well as practicing goals such as finding the letter that makes _ sound etc. The use of the ABC; s has been fun in sessions as they are rainbow colored and allow students to hold each letter as they learn the sound the letter makes. Also, I have used sensory tubes in therapy sessions and they have been a fun way for the very young students (aged 4- kindergarten) to utilize as reinforcement as well as vocabulary expansion while the pull on the tubes and place them back together. \r\n Also, utilizing materials such as PLAY foods has been a fantastic way for my students to learn about new food items that they maybe have not interacted with or simple did not know the label for including labels of foods such as green beans, broccoli, eggplant, onions etc. These toy foods are not only hands on but also manipulatives as they separate, i.e., the eggs come out of the shell and can be cut in two, the watermelon pieces also can be cut with the toy knife. This is a fun activity for my students. While these are just some of the items received, the students have already been enjoying them greatly.","fullyFundedDate":1735132980842,"projectUrl":"project/learning-through-play-with-littles-in-sp/8753444/","projectTitle":"Learning through Play with Littles in Speech Therapy","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Ciurej","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp8087775_orig.jpg?crop=312,312,x542,y288&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1669430754142","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/8087775"},{"teacherId":8087775,"projectId":8755961,"letterContent":"Thank you again for being generous and allowing my students so many great resources to implement into their speech therapy sessions. While there are many items that have been purchased and included in sessions, here are just a few. The gift card for teachers pay teachers continues to provide amazing resources that are relevant to each child's functioning and allows them visual supports and hands on activities. A few examples I provided here are vocabulary printables for my younger students who are just expanding their language skills. Other printable work sheets target my students phonemic awareness skills targeting the initial sounds of words, i.e., what is the first sound in dog, as well as rhyming worksheets that allow our students visual supports and hands on activity to print our papers and allow them to match pictured items and glue them down. The resource of laminating pouches comes in very handy when laminating some resources to re-use from session to session. For example, the vocabulary activity that was purchased from teachers pay teachers and was then laminated became a fun BINGO activity for my students. This is very rewarding for students in place of just looking at something in a book and instead they use play dough to represent a coin for BINGO as well as of-course taking the time to play with play dough. Other resources we have already included in our classroom is these big POST IT pads that have information for our students to look back at while targeting writing goals. For example, the one pictured is a visual cue for our students on what to include when describing a story.\r\n\r\nAlso, the sensory items have been a big hit as a reward for students and as a way to implement their goals into play time. For example, the SENSORY BIN construction zone has been used by kids from 3 years old to 10 years old. For the younger students I have hidden pictures of vocabulary words that we are working on while they \"dig\" for vocabulary and for older students it is a moment of reprieve.\r\n Please find attached some pictures of these fantastic resources in play.","fullyFundedDate":1735132328462,"projectUrl":"project/essentials-for-speech-therapy/8755961/","projectTitle":"Essentials for Speech Therapy","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Ciurej","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp8087775_orig.jpg?crop=312,312,x542,y288&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1669430754142","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/8087775"},{"teacherId":5024728,"projectId":8757950,"letterContent":"On behalf of the students and myself at PS 57 I would like to express our heartfelt gratitude for your generous donation of Lego robotics.
