Thanks to you, our brand new mobile whiteboard has already become an essential part of my student's daily learning.\r\n\r\nWe have been using the whiteboard all over the classroom! I am able to easily move it around the classroom from our whole class area to small group instruction, and even to individual groups of students to support their learning needs. During a recent reading lesson, I was able to use this board to model what my students how they should be filling in a graphic organizer. \r\n\r\nRight now, we are working on a unit that focuses on what makes a character interesting. The whiteboard has been a perfect tool for organizing our thoughts during discussions. I was able to use the board to hold up my chart pad, where we keep track of all the texts we have read in the module and their themes. On the other side of the board, I was able to write and jot down what students were thinking so they can see their ideas. \r\n\r\nYour support didn't just provide a tool, but it created new opportunities for student engagement and meaningful learning. Whether it's for guided reading sessions, math support, or project work, the kidney table offers an environment where students can receive more focused attention and actively participate in discussions.\r\n\r\nAdditionally, the kidney table fosters a sense of community in the classroom. By offering a dedicated space for collaborative learning, it helps students build stronger relationships with one another. The closer proximity to the teacher also creates opportunities for students to ask questions and receive immediate feedback. Your contribution has provided us with new stools for small group instruction and assessment, and I can't even begin to express how much of a difference they've made in our learning environment.\r\n\r\nWe've already begun using the stools in a variety of ways, but one of the most exciting moments was during our literacy centers. The new stools allow students to comfortably gather in small groups, where we can have more focused, interactive discussions about the texts we're reading. \r\n\r\nWhen the students first saw the stools, there was an immediate sense of excitement! Many of them commented on how much more comfortable the space felt. They were thrilled by the idea of having a dedicated area for small group work where they could sit close to one another and interact more easily with the materials. \r\n\r\nLooking ahead, we are continuing to use the stools for more assessment-based activities. The small group setting is perfect for one-on-one check-ins, small-group assessments, and even peer tutoring. Students are now able to feel more confident when it's time for individual feedback or to collaborate on problem-solving tasks. These stools have made our classroom feel more dynamic and intentional, providing the space we need to help students thrive.\r\n\r\nYour support has truly transformed how we approach learning, and we're so excited to see where the students go from here. Thanks to your support, my fifth-grade students now have access to a beautiful new ukulele cart, which has brought an incredible level of excitement and joy to our classroom.\r\n\r\nWhen the ukuleles arrived, the students' faces lit up with wonder and curiosity. Many of them had never held or played a string instrument before, so seeing a classroom full of ukuleles neatly organized in a special cart was an unforgettable moment. They immediately wanted to learn how to hold, strum, and play chords. \r\n\r\nCurrently, we are focusing on basic techniques, including strumming patterns and transitioning between simple chords. A particularly exciting moment happened this week when students successfully played their first song together as a class. The sense of accomplishment and teamwork was palpableāit truly felt like a celebration of what your generosity has made possible.\r\n\r\nAs we continue, the next steps for our ukulele lessons will include exploring more complex chord progressions, learning to accompany their singing, and even experimenting with songwriting. \r\n\r\nYour contribution has transformed our classroom into a space filled with creativity, music, and inspiration. You have not only provided us with an incredible resource but also encouraged students to discover a lifelong love of music. Students are learning basic strumming techniques, chord shapes, and how to read chord charts. A particularly special moment happened during our second lesson when students successfully played the C chord together for the first time. Hearing their excitement as they strummed in unison was truly inspiring. \r\n\r\nThe students were overjoyed when they saw the ukuleles for the first time! Many had never seen or held a ukulele before, and their faces lit up with excitement and curiosity. \r\n\r\nOur next steps are to continue building foundational skills like switching between the C and G7 chords, reading simple chord progressions, and maintaining a steady strumming pattern. As the students gain confidence, we'll begin working on group performances where they'll accompany themselves on the ukuleles while singing. By the end of this unit, we hope to perform as a class for an audience, which will showcase not only their musical growth but also their teamwork and dedication.\r\n\r\nEnjoy the photos of one of my fifth grade classes hard at work !","fullyFundedDate":1722392767178,"projectUrl":"project/meet-the-ukes/8530180/","projectTitle":"Meet the Ukes","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Del Vecchio","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9614959_orig.png?crop=1026,1026,x0,y6&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1757607515725","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9614959"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_971","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":360,"numTeachers":26,"percentFrplEligible":81,"percentAsian":22,"percentBlack":8,"percentWhite":9,"percentIndigenous":4,"percentLatinx":51,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"2 - 5","studentTeacherRatio":"13.8:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"CITY_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":53.6,"schoolId":971,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about PS 56 Harry Eichler on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"PS 56 Harry Eichler","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/new-york/new-york-city-dept-of-ed/ps-56-harry-eichler/971"}
