As part of a District 75 special education program, many of my students face challenges far beyond the classroom. Being able to offer them sweatpants, reusable water bottles, and daily snacks has changed the tone of our classroom in the most meaningful ways.\r\n\r\nWe started using the new supplies the very day they arrived. One of my students had an accident that morning, and for the first time, he didn't have to sit in discomfort or miss learning time—we simply handed him a clean pair of sweatpants. His relief was immediate, and he returned to class smiling and ready to participate. Moments like this show just how much dignity and confidence these essentials provide.\r\n\r\nWhen students saw the new water bottles, they were thrilled. Several immediately asked if they could fill them up \"all by myself,\" showing a sense of independence and pride. The snacks have quickly become a dependable source of comfort and focus, especially during those long stretches between meals. Having something nutritious available helps settle anxious students and keeps them engaged in their work.\r\n\r\nThese may seem like small items, but in our classroom, they have made a huge impact. My students walk in each morning knowing their needs will be met, and that sense of security has created a calmer, more focused learning environment.\r\n\r\nOur next steps are to continue building routines around self-care and independence—using water bottles responsibly, choosing healthy snacks, and learning how to advocate for their own needs. With these basic essentials taken care of, we can spend more time on academic and life-skills projects that help our students grow.\r\n\r\nThank you for giving my students the chance to feel safe, supported, and ready to learn. Your kindness has made a real difference in their day-to-day lives, and we are deeply grateful.","fullyFundedDate":1757433766015,"projectUrl":"project/meeting-basic-needs-so-students-can-thri/9574072/","projectTitle":"Meeting Basic Needs So Students Can Thrive","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Lisa Ciuffo","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp10167129_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1754925652620","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/lisaciuffo"},{"teacherId":10243518,"projectId":9687335,"letterContent":"The SmartBoard has truly enhanced learning in our Adapted Physical Education class. My students respond best to visuals and movement, and this technology makes every lesson more engaging and accessible. We use it for fun dance routines and exercise videos that build coordination and confidence while keeping students excited to participate. Watching demonstrations of children their age playing sports like soccer and basketball helps them see what's possible and encourages them to try new skills with enthusiasm.\r\n\r\nThe SmartBoard has also made learning more interactive and student-driven.
