Students are so excited to use these materials whenever they get the chance. Bananagrams was so fun to teach to the students and see them challenge their thinking with each round that they play. At first, they were building 3 letter words, and by the end of the week, they were adding prefixes and suffixes and creating some amazing and intricate grids. No one has been able to beat me yet, but I am sure they will get there! \r\nThe word ladder has also been helpful to challenge students thinking and let them apply outside knowledge as they work to complete different themed ladders. Their vocabulary has been enhanced and it is no longer a monotonous period for students to engage in. \r\nFluency has been great to practice using the whisper phones and it really helps the students to hear themselves read and correct any miscues. Now that we have increased our fluency and vocabulary, we are really excited to jump into chapter books for our small groups the second half of the year. \r\nFinally, the greatest impact has been the headphones. Students take such pride in keeping their headphones organized and intact. The old headphones were very tangled, and only a few worked. Students love knowing that their headphones are reliable and work well. \r\nYour donation has had impacts that will last on these students beyond their time in this classroom! Because of you, students are comfortable taking risks and exploring strategies when engaging in independent practice. \r\nBy far the biggest impact has been the leaders who have emerged through these routines built by our \"Thinking Classroom\". Our fourth graders are excited to take the Expo marker and lead their groups through difficult problems all while discussing their thinking aloud. Students are teaching each other more than ever and taking real ownership of their learning.
