When students first saw the puzzles they were so excited!! The puzzles not only served as a huge motivator it also helped foster their growth in many areas.\r\nFirst grade is a year of huge growth for many students. They not only strengthen reading and writing skills, they learn to become more independent. Upon seeing the puzzles, the students were elated! They kept asking, \"Can I do puzzles?\" For those students who struggled to complete their work on time, the puzzles motivated them to focus more and complete their assigned task (so that they could then use the puzzles).\r\nStudents also strengthened their cooperative learning skills. They worked together to complete the puzzles and shared a common sense of accomplishment when they found pieces that went together. \r\nFor the new language learners, these puzzles were especially helpful in fostering growth of new vocabulary and building confidence. \r\nMany students also showed significant gains in sounding out basic C-V-C words.
