Scholastic gives them so many opportunities to learn. First we start off by just looking at the cover and turning and talking to our classmates. When we open up the news it gives us opportunities to point to numbers and colors for reinforcement. Again we look at each picture to predict what the words might say. We start to learn to point at every word training them how to read left to right. Lastly on the back one of their favorite parts an activity that is always fun. Each student now has a personal word chart they use during phonics practice. As we introduce new sounds—like blends, digraphs, or vowel teams—students work on building words, writing them, and using them in sentences. These charts have become a key part of our small group instruction and independent work stations.\r\n\r\nTo boost motivation, we've introduced a simple but fun prize system. When students build a set number of words or complete a chart, they earn stickers, certificates, and occasionally get to choose from a small prize box. These incentives have turned phonics into a game-like challenge and have encouraged students to take more ownership of their learning.\r\nThe students were so excited to have their own phonics chart and letters! eyes lit up when they saw the prize system displayed in the classroom. The idea of earning rewards while learning made them even more enthusiastic to get started.\r\n\r\nNext, we'll be moving into more complex word structures like blends and digraphs, and students will use their charts to explore and build those new patterns.\r\n\r\nThanks to your generosity, our classroom is now filled with even more excitement for learning. One student hugged her bag and said, \"This is like my own little library!\" For children who may not have access to many books at home, this was a big deal.\r\n\r\nWe've been using the reading bags during our independent reading time and for take-home reading. Each student gets to choose books that match their reading level and interests, which has boosted not only their skills but also their confidence. \r\n\r\n\r\nLooking ahead, we're starting a writing project where students will create their own short stories inspired by the books they've read from the bags. Please now can be preserved and also saved in the classroom without getting any destruction or with them having to be thrown away so quickly. Unfortunately my label maker was not in stock so I was not able to have that sent to me for the classroom in order to print labels and make them look more print rich. So I am still having to refer to the computer to print out and then laminate those labels or teaching models. The camera has allowed me to access immediate photos and in color so I can quickly hang them on students' cubbies or even on Center charts for example.
