The materials designed to strengthen fine motor skills such as pencil grips, tracing activities, manipulatives, and adaptive writing supports have allowed students to practice the foundational movements needed for fluent, legible handwriting.\r\n Students who previously struggled with holding a pencil, forming letters, or writing for sustained periods are now showing increased control, coordination, and endurance. Because the toolkit offers hands-on, engaging ways to build fine motor strength, students approach writing tasks with more enthusiasm and less frustration. This improvement in physical writing ability directly supports their learning across subjects. They are able to complete written assignments more independently, keep pace with classroom expectations, and express their ideas more clearly on paper.\r\n As handwriting becomes less of a barrier, students are more willing to write, which leads to richer class work, higher-quality assignments, and improved confidence in themselves as learners. The tools have especially benefited students who require additional support or accommodations, giving them access to materials that meet their needs without drawing unwanted attention.\r\n Overall, funding this project has not only strengthened fine motor development but has also contributed to a more productive and positive learning environment where students feel capable, supported, and increasingly successful in their academic work.","fullyFundedDate":1758898874881,"projectUrl":"project/hands-on-success/9721491/","projectTitle":"Hands-On Success!","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. C.","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-2_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/7073022"},{"teacherId":6062184,"projectId":9415560,"letterContent":"want to sincerely thank you for your generous donation to our classroom. The reading tent, sensory toys, and new clock have already made such a wonderful difference for my students.\r\n\r\nThe reading tent has quickly become a favorite spot where children can cozy up with a book, calm their bodies, and enjoy a safe space to explore reading in a fun and engaging way. The sensory toys have given students healthy outlets to meet their sensory needs, helping them stay focused and comfortable during lessons. And our new classroom clock has been an exciting addition—students love checking it throughout the day, and it's helping them build a stronger sense of time and independence.\r\n\r\nBecause of your generosity, my classroom is now a more welcoming, supportive, and motivating environment for every learner. My students truly feel cared for, and their joy in using these new tools has been a wonderful thing to witness.\r\n\r\nThank you for making such a positive impact on their learning and daily experience.","fullyFundedDate":1758899073996,"projectUrl":"project/teepee-reading/9415560/","projectTitle":"Teepee Reading","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Rossello","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/272x272/tp6062184_272x272.jpg?width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1542255150314","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/steph-rossello-193"},{"teacherId":6075437,"projectId":9203072,"letterContent":"On behalf of our students and myself, I would like to extend our deepest gratitude for your generous donation of supplies to our occupational therapy project.\r\n\r\nYour support has made a meaningful difference in the lives of students with disabilities. The new resources have brought a fresh sense of excitement and engagement, offering creative tools and activities designed to enhance fine motor skills. These resources, such as sensory timers, textured materials, and building kits, have been integrated into daily activities, allowing students to develop hand-eye coordination, dexterity, and problem-solving skills in a hands-on way.\r\n\r\nWhen the students first saw the new materials, their reactions were filled with joy and curiosity. Their eyes lit up as they realized the fun and challenging activities they could now explore, whether it was through crafting, building, or sorting exercises. The excitement was contagious, and the energy in the classroom shifted to a more focused and eager vibe, as the students were genuinely motivated to participate in these new activities.\r\n\r\nIn terms of usage, the students have been actively incorporating the resources into various tasks. They've been practicing their scissor skills, engaging in fine motor games, and building fine motor control through puzzles and interactive toys. The resources have also encouraged social interaction, as students collaborate on tasks, building teamwork and communication skills while working on their individual development.\r\n\r\nThe next step for the classroom involves continuing to build on this momentum by expanding the variety of activities that target different fine motor skills. We plan to incorporate more personalized challenges and introduce more complex materials that encourage critical thinking. Additionally, integrating these activities into daily lessons will ensure that fine motor skills become an organic part of the students' learning process.","fullyFundedDate":1735494292091,"projectUrl":"project/occupational-therapy-fine-motor-fun/8921104/","projectTitle":"Occupational Therapy Fine Motor Fun","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. C.","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-2_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/7073022"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_738","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":487,"numTeachers":58,"percentFrplEligible":76,"percentAsian":19,"percentBlack":24,"percentWhite":31,"percentIndigenous":3,"percentLatinx":16,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"K - 5","studentTeacherRatio":"8.4:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"CITY_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":58.0,"schoolId":738,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about PS 193 Gil Hodges on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"PS 193 Gil Hodges","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/new-york/new-york-city-dept-of-ed/ps-193-gil-hodges/738"}
