Together with students, we created individual supply bags so students can easily access what they need when they need it. Students also helped design and post signs around the school to let others know that these supplies are available, helping to create a supportive and caring environment beyond just our classroom.\r\nWhen the supplies first arrived, there was a real sense of excitement and appreciation. Many students immediately recognized items they needed, and it meant a lot for them to know those needs would be met in a safe, welcoming space. It has helped normalize conversations around self-care and made it easier for students to take care of themselves with confidence.\r\nAs we move forward, these resources will continue to be part of our daily routines. We are building habits around responsibility, independence, and self-care, all of which support students not just academically, but personally as well. We have learned that we have many things in common with students in schools across the country, as well as many differences! We learned about many different types of rural, suburban and urban communities as well. Some schools have a LOT more kids that we do, and others have A LOT less! We learned about famous landmarks in different parts of our countries as well. Schools included photos, hand drawn pictures and more.
