Using the blank books, washi tape, crayons, and art materials you provided, students planned, illustrated, and wrote personal stories that reflected their lives, cultures, and imaginations. One especially meaningful moment was watching a student who is usually hesitant to speak in English proudly share their finished book with classmates, pointing to each illustration as they read their words aloud with confidence.\r\n\r\nWhen the materials first arrived, my students' excitement was immediate and contagious. They carefully explored the supplies, asking questions and sharing ideas about what their books would become. The colorful tape, smooth pages, and vibrant crayons made the project feel special and welcoming, helping students feel less intimidated by writing in English. For many of them, the combination of art and language removed barriers and allowed their creativity to lead the way.\r\n\r\nThe students will continue expanding their books over the school year as their language skills grow. Thanks to your support, my students see themselves not just as English learners, but as authors and artists with stories worth sharing.","fullyFundedDate":1755874015737,"projectUrl":"project/our-stories-our-voices-young-authors-i/9619009/","projectTitle":"Our Stories, Our Voices: Young Authors in Queens","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Adamson","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp101592_orig.jpg?crop=382,382,x1,y41&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1726164363679","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/jaclyn-adamson"},{"teacherId":101592,"projectId":9261851,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for supporting our \"All Are Welcome\" mural at PS 135Q. Your generosity allowed my fourth and fifth grade students to transform a blank wall into a celebration of the many languages spoken in our Queens community. When the materials arrived, students were immediately excited and couldn't wait to begin painting. As an educator, this was one of the best projects I've ever done with a group of students!\r\n\r\nWith help from multilingual students and staff, we wrote \"welcome\" in Arabic, Bengali, Spanish, Polish, Haitian Creole, Urdu, Greek, and more. We use it daily for ELA reading and writing. The thermal printer has been a game-changer—it allows me to print anchor charts and resources that fit perfectly into students' notebooks. At first, the students weren't sure how it would help them, but now they're excited and relieved whenever I hand out their perfectly sized printouts!\r\n\r\nThe paper towels have also been a huge help—accidental spills happen often, and they're great to have on hand.
