Our students come from diverse socioeconomic, academic, and cultural backgrounds so it is even more satisfying to observe them make a discovery with each other. It gives them another opportunity to recognize their similarities rather than their differences as human beings.\r\n\r\nLast Spring we hosted two nests: Wrens and Robins. Students were able to monitor the eggs hatching, the growth of the chicks, and their eventual independence. First and Second graders studied a unit on butterflies and observed caterpillars through the cocoon phase before releasing them into the beautiful butterfly bushes we had planted.\r\n\r\nMore recently there was a great deal of excitement as the Third grade went out to the garden for a Science lesson, opened one of the picnic table umbrellas and found a bright green frog resting on the pole! This opened up a new avenue for discussion for the class.\r\n\r\nThis new and growing space has afforded not only our students but also our staff the opportunity to enjoy a quiet and peaceful area to catch their breath, encounter the sights and sounds of nature, and share some sweet experiences.\r\n\r\nThank you for supporting our efforts to engage and teach our students in unique ways!","fullyFundedDate":1743041029045,"projectUrl":"project/growing-a-garden-for-sensory-support/9189911/","projectTitle":"Growing a Garden for Sensory Support","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Melissa","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9966666_orig.png?crop=131,131,x0,y3&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1742922998940","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9966666"},{"teacherId":9776675,"projectId":9175484,"letterContent":"With your help and support, I have been able to create a wonderful and calming space for the students at PCS West. The smiles on their faces and their excitement of what my room had to offer was heart-warming; however, the biggest impact didn't come from just visiting or having fun.
