As soon as I opened the boxes their faces lit up. When the kids saw the amount of Numberblock friends that were about to join our classroom they cheered! We opened the packages and had the new friends join our existing friends as we took out our bins of snap cubes and created matches for the numbers 11, 12, 13, and 14. \r\nThe puzzle boxes are an absolute wonderland of playful learning opportunities. Adding stickers to create the faces takes precision and is great practice for fine motor skills. \r\nWe are practicing place value, composing and decomposing numbers and gaining an understanding of numbers in expanded form. \r\nWe are using the addition and subtraction puzzles as a preview and review activity to paper and pencil activity. Thanks to your generosity I have an engaging way to increase student involvement in daily math instruction.","fullyFundedDate":1763600725145,"projectUrl":"project/there-are-numbers-then-there-are-numberb/9740540/","projectTitle":"There Are Numbers Then There Are Numberblocks!","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Kagen","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp248183_orig.jpg?crop=917,917,x1693,y907&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1690390494782","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/248183"},{"teacherId":248183,"projectId":9812124,"letterContent":"The books are in our collection and in our daily rotation. In addition to the books being engaging for my students, we now have enough copies for 5 kids to hold a book at the same time. We are able to talk about story elements - characters, setting and plot because they have a familiarity with the series. My goal is to extend this to new books.\r\n\r\nWow oh wow, and the phones! They were an immediate success with the kids. They had daily practice phone calls with each other. I added a bluetooth connection to my cell phone and the class got to experience the excitement of the phone ringing (it was our librarian who called first). Teachers and therapists will call my cell phone and the pink (former play) phone will ring. With each experience the kids get better at actually listening to the caller and responding. The phones bring continuous joy and practice to the room. Gerald (the elephant) and Piggie joined the collection of plushies that offer comfort and a safe audience for our new readers. \r\nI am very excited to add the multi sensory \"Eyewords\" sight words. Practice with the words will help build fluency and confidence. The kids get to see the pages and hear the text read with intonation and inflection. The kids love to then turn down the lights and use their flashlights to reread the books independently. \r\n\r\nThe flashlights are stored in their personal cubby and come out during the day for other activities. On an overcast day, the flashlights were taken onto the playground and used to spot light leaves of different colors. We have made shadow puppets, and to put a literal spotlight on words on the walls of our school. \r\n\r\nSome items on our list were not able to be ordered, that was sad news. The good news is we were able to select some replacement items that included new fidgets, more copies of the books we love, and new cover for our classroom trampoline. The printer is in our room, and of course a big box, new sounds, and buttons that illuminate attack attention. Most, if not all, of my students have wandered over and inspected the new printer. The on off button has been pushed repeatedly. This is good, curiosity builds problem solving skills. \r\nWe have started with making books of the songs we listen to - this was a process of taking screen shots (using the \"snip\" function) and then adding them to a word document and formatting. It is currently 98% my work, 2% kids. I know from experience and prior students it will not take long before the snip, copy and paste will be able to be completed by the students - at least those interested in technology. \r\nNow that we are 22 days into the school year, I have a better grasp on the interests of my students so we can begin more individualized searches - and print the results.\r\nPrior to adding the printer to our room, we would have to wait until the kids were at lunch or special for me to print and retrieve the printout.\r\nI absolutely LOVE teaching Autistic Support and thanks to your generosity, I am now able to do so much more!","fullyFundedDate":1758232261516,"projectUrl":"project/search-click-print-read-cut-paste/9475284/","projectTitle":"Search, Click, Print, Read, Cut, Paste even Laminate - Repeat!","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Kagen","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp248183_orig.jpg?crop=917,917,x1693,y907&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1690390494782","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/248183"},{"teacherId":248183,"projectId":9438755,"letterContent":"We Love Love Love Elephant and Piggie, technically we love Gerald (Elephant)! The lovely picture of the books in their themed book ends was stacked for about 20 minutes then they were dispersed amongst the class. Each child seems to gravitate to their favorite story. \r\nI grew up loving books and love seeing how your donations are supporting a new generation of book loving children. \r\nThe stuffed animals, besides being fun to hold and offering a comfortable hug; also make a fantastic listener when the kids read and reread the books. The stuffed animals are also used to act out parts of the stories. The tear drop bean bag chair was an immediate success. It is fun to use the beanbag as a seat to read a book or talk to Piggie and Gerald. The number friends and stacking blocks are being used by my 1st, 2nd, and 3rd grade students. It starts with composing and decomposing numbers and ends with understanding math word problems. \r\nOften to test understanding of a math concept, a student will be asked to fill in the blank. For example, 2 plus what equals 8. When students have not grasped the concept, they will revert to just answering the basic addition problem, and reply 10. When the students have access to the stacking number blocks, they can visually see what is missing and answer correctly with the number 6. After consistent practice with the number stacking blocks a student can move towards writing the number sentence that corresponds, and ultimately use them to write both the addition number sentence and subtraction sentence.\r\nThank you for making this possible!\r\nI","fullyFundedDate":1738543838837,"projectUrl":"project/number-friends-make-math-lessons-a-frien/9039710/","projectTitle":"Number Friends Make Math Lessons a Friendly Experience","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Kagen","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp248183_orig.jpg?crop=917,917,x1693,y907&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1690390494782","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/248183"},{"teacherId":248183,"projectId":8966408,"letterContent":"I thought we would begin the new unit with the new year, but when the boxes arrived there was no way we could wait. The kids were so excited when the boxes arrived. Yes, they know what an Amazon box means! There was a learning curve with setting up a marble run, it was exactly what we needed to have happen – the kids had to think, plan, test it, then adjust. The Picasso Tile Marble Run magnets are very sturdy and able to handle the creation and collapse of each of the creations.\r\nWe created run after run after run, and then added the light up marbles. This was SO exciting! After the first week, the kids were experienced, had reduced frustration and were working together to create longer runs. I know when we return from winter break they will jump right back into the learning process.\r\nAs we introduced the marble run process we added the real life movements to mimic what the marbles did as they progressed through the maze. We already had stepping stones in our room, so we added the balance of the EZ can steppers and finished with the crawl tunnel. We talked about speed and friction - the challenge was to make it from one end to the other of the Pacific Play tent 6 foot crawl tunnel without shaking or moving the tunnel as they crawled. It also is taking patience and practice \r\nFor our students not as interested in the physical activity, we had the table top activity of creating shapes, objects, and 3-D versions of geometric objects with the Stick and Ball geometry Kit. We have not yet explored the Let's Make a Rainbow book with a project, but we have read and looked through the pages. Making a rainbow will be one of our 2025 classroom learning experiences. \r\nI know there are so many classrooms in need, thank you for making a difference for our students this year, and please know that your donation will create learning opportunities for years to come.","fullyFundedDate":1733277153721,"projectUrl":"project/wait-what-did-i-just-make-happen-learn/8966408/","projectTitle":"Wait!
