The Presidio high school students got to be the first ones to try them out and create meaningful portraits of people who have made a positive impact on their lives. These ranged from different family members, to music, acting, and fashion icons.\r\n\r\nStudents expressed that this project has taught them that \"it's okay to try new and different things, and it's okay to attempt new methods...this project helped me explore myself more in depth and I had the most fun showing off what I like considering fashion and people I idolize. It definitely helped me get a sense of better drawing skills, and going deeper into shading, volume, and just attempting to draw real human features\". \r\n\r\nAnother student states, \"Creating this piece has changed me not only as an artist, but as a person. I used to struggle with being vulnerable, especially in my artwork or anything that I shared about myself. Even writing this statement is a big step for me. But working on this portrait pushed me to be more open...\".\r\n\r\nEven though drawing realism was a challenge for most students, they embraced that they were still able to advance in their artistic journey, expressing that \"...you can really achieve almost anything with the right materials and that you have a certain, new kind of motivation when you're drawing something you like or someone special to you.\".\r\n\r\nThe Presidio School art students and I are thankful for this opportunity you have given us, to bond, share, and grow together. These supplies will continue to be used in many more future pieces of artwork.","fullyFundedDate":1751915694219,"projectUrl":"project/honoring-the-ones-who-lifted-us/9394715/","projectTitle":"Honoring the Ones Who Lifted Us","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Tran","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp10049552_orig.jpg?crop=1152,1152,x0,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1748999309502","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10049552"},{"teacherId":9931034,"projectId":9129701,"letterContent":"The impact of this donation would be huge. Your donation provided many students who are required to attend an after school tutoring program with a snack. Almost every student who attends the after school tutoring program comes from a family that falls into the Title One population, so these student's families can't afford to provide snacks for their children. The students receive free breakfast and lunch at school. The snacks of Goldfish, cheese and animal crackers, Teddy Grahams, Oreos and Chips Ahoy cookies, and fruit snacks gave students the boost they needed to focus and complete their work each day. Last year I spent about $75-$80 a month buying snacks for my \r\nstudents so not having to do that this year has also helped me immensely. I was in dire need of headphones for my students. My class is a computer based reading program for all kindergarten, first, second and third grade students at my school. I see 132 students each school day. I have 8 classes daily and even offer an after school tutoring program for free to students who need additional help. It was very hard for the students to do their best work when they can not even hear their program. The headphones have benefited all of my students. \r\nThe students have been thrilled to be able to use working headphones. All of the classes have shown improvement in their test scores, and in a time when data is so important at all schools, the use of headphones has allowed my students to \"show what they know.\" The overall scores in kindergarten have improved 60%, in first grade 85%, second grade 83% and in third grade 74%. All of this growth will translate to the students becoming better readers. which affect how well they do in the future as an adult in college and in the job market.
