Your generosity has provided my students with tools that are not only practical but deeply meaningful in their daily routines and emotional growth.\r\n\r\nMy classroom is a self-contained environment for elementary students with special needs, many of whom struggle with emotional regulation, transitions, and anxiety. Something as simple as not knowing how much longer they have to work—or how long their break will last—can cause real distress. The visual timers we received have been absolutely life-changing for them.\r\n\r\nWe use these timers every single day, during both work periods and break times. Because the timers show time passing in a clear, visual way, my students are now able to better anticipate transitions and manage their expectations. This simple support has helped reduce meltdowns, increased their ability to stay on task, and given them a stronger sense of control and independence.\r\n\r\nFor many of my students, managing big emotions is one of their biggest challenges. These timers have become a powerful tool in helping them learn to self-regulate and deescalate before reaching a breaking point. I've watched students who used to shut down or act out during transitions now calmly acknowledge how much time they have left and move forward with more confidence.\r\n\r\nComing from a low-income area, many of my students do not have access to resources like this at home. Your support has provided something we could not have otherwise purchased, and it has made our classroom a safer, calmer, and more productive place.\r\n\r\nThank you, from the bottom of my heart, for believing in my students and supporting their growth in such a meaningful way.","fullyFundedDate":1747069499809,"projectUrl":"project/a-new-timer-for-my-special-education-stu/9342534/","projectTitle":"A new timer for my special education students","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Blacker","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9987353_orig.jpg?crop=1080,1080,x0,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1743309287569","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9987353"},{"teacherId":9987353,"projectId":9285132,"letterContent":"I cannot thank you enough for your incredible generosity and support through DonorsChoose. Thanks to your donation, my special needs elementary classroom received a brand-new classroom rug and flexible seating—and the difference these items have made is nothing short of transformational.\r\n\r\nBefore this project was funded, our classroom rug was worn thin and coming apart at the seams. The seating options were few, uncomfortable, and no longer supportive of my students' unique learning needs. But now, thanks to you, my classroom is a more welcoming, comfortable, and functional space where every child feels safe and excited to learn.\r\n\r\nWe use the rug and seating every single day. The new rug has become the heart of our classroom—it's where we gather for morning meetings, group lessons, calming moments, and shared stories. My students are more attentive and settled during these times because they finally have a soft, clean, and inviting space to sit.\r\n\r\nThe flexible seating options have also been a game-changer. My students—who are in a self-contained setting and have a wide range of sensory and learning needs—benefit tremendously from having choices in how and where they sit. Whether it's a wiggle stool, a cozy floor cushion, or a supportive chair, each student can now find what works best for them. This has led to increased focus, greater independence, and, most importantly, happier learners.\r\n\r\nMany of my students come from low-income households and do not have access to resources like this outside of school. These materials are not just classroom furniture—they're tools for inclusion, comfort, and success. Your support provided something we simply could not afford otherwise, and it has made a lasting impact on my students' daily lives.\r\n\r\nThank you, from the bottom of my heart, for believing in our classroom and making it a better place to learn and grow.","fullyFundedDate":1746785965873,"projectUrl":"project/seats-that-move-minds-flexible-seating/9285132/","projectTitle":"Seats That Move Minds: Flexible Seating in Special Education","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Blacker","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9987353_orig.jpg?crop=1080,1080,x0,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1743309287569","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9987353"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_29156","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":133,"numTeachers":10,"percentFrplEligible":16,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":2,"percentWhite":92,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":3,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"K - 6","studentTeacherRatio":"13.3:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":false,"titleOne":false,"metroType":"RURAL","ncesMetroType":"RURAL_DISTANT"},"inStateSupporters":50.0,"schoolId":29156,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Prairieview - Ogden South Elementary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Prairieview - Ogden South Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/illinois/prairieview-ogden-sch-dist-197/prairieview-ogden-south-elementary-school/29156"}
