By having graphic novels, they're able to use context clues form pictures to help them understand what's going on even when struggling with the words themselves. \r\n\r\nThere have even been times when I've had to ask students to set books aside during direct instruction! As someone who teaches students who sometimes self describe as \"hating reading\" this warms my heart.
