Since the initial DonorsChoose supply unboxing experience (be sure to check out the video on the homepage of our website), students have taken the excitement of that day and channeled all of that enthusiasm into their research and writing. In our first two months of the school year, students have produced a total of 28 unique articles with topics ranging from sports icons, to artificial intelligence, to historical accounts of holidays.\r\n\r\nThus far, we have utilized the digital cameras to capture exciting moments from school field trips as well as staff profile pictures. As we continue throughout the year, we are planning on spending the month of January on a photo essay feature for The Portage Current, so those cameras will certainly come in handy. As for the other tools and technology, we also have big plans at The Portage Current to begin conducting interviews with school staff on topics that students are researching, which is where we will use the cameras, voice recorders, and notepads.\r\n\r\nIt has been very inspiring to see students take this morsel of a concept and to really run with it. I've already had students tell me how much they feel like their writing skills have improved and, after continuous conversations around editing and revision, I can confidently say that they have.
