It's become a favorite play center, and watching the kids gather around it has been one of my favorite parts of the day. So many of my students with autism don't naturally do reciprocal play, so seeing them take turns and actually interact with each other around that ramp has been amazing. I've watched real friendships start to form because of it.\r\n\r\nThese kids are so special, and getting to see their milestones, even the small ones, is the best part of my job. With your donation, the students were able to plant seeds, monitor growth, and explore plant biology and ecosystems firsthand, building ownership, responsibility, and a lasting appreciation for how food grows and how we can care for our Earth. \r\nChecking out our garden was always the first exciting moment each morning in the classroom! It was a mad rush through the door to see if \"their\" plant had grown. Each student chose a plant that they were monitoring and wrote down growth observations in their plant journal. We had a variety of herbs, vegetables and fruits. We had fresh herbs for nightly dinners and one student was even able to provide fresh organic Kale to her bunny at home! \r\nThe students have officially decided that all classrooms should have a hydroponic garden and many of our classroom families are now looking into growing one in their own home.
