The students I work with were so excited to see new tools to help them. So far this school year, we have been exploring different emotions and the signals our bodies give when experiencing these feelings. Our focus has been on introducing and discovering various tools and strategies to help manage emotions. Each student is working to find the perfect fit for their needs and they were excited to have new things to try. As we are in the 1st quarter yet, a lot of work has been on establishing our routines and building a therapeutic relationship with each student but we have already learned that one student struggled with our new Zen breathing buddy as it has a 4,7,8 count and they are not quite ready for that one yet. We also learned Mrs. O'Shasky should read directions before she tries new things as she was not on count with her breath either. Our Purble was introduced to a student who frequently is dysregulated and he was able to focus and participate in a social emotional learning group for 15 minutes. \r\nThrough this process, we've been emphasizing self-awareness and emotional regulation. By understanding physical cues, students are learning how to respond effectively when emotions become overwhelming. \r\n Examples of how we do this: emotion check in's, mindfulness, movements activities, using and modeling interoception words, role playing scenarios,teaching coping skills such as positive self talk and teaching students a wide range of emotional vocabulary to help them articulate their feelings more accurately. \r\nI think the next steps are to be consistent and continue the work we have started this first quarter. We will continue to use the books and tools to discuss emotions to expand their understanding. We will hold discussions that have students self reflect on their feelings and encourage them to to talk about what strategies worked for them and why. We will continue to co-regulate with them as needed and support them both in their successes but also when they are struggling and need us the most. Kids are the best and I am thankful for the work I get to do with them.","fullyFundedDate":1755692120048,"projectUrl":"project/engaging-the-whole-body-in-learning/9528646/","projectTitle":"Engaging the Whole Body in Learning","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. O'Shasky","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-6_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/2805251"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_38113","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":459,"numTeachers":31,"percentFrplEligible":39,"percentAsian":7,"percentBlack":1,"percentWhite":70,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":16,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"K - 6","studentTeacherRatio":"14.8:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":false,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"TOWN","ncesMetroType":"TOWN_DISTANT"},"inStateSupporters":71.1,"schoolId":38113,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Plover - Whiting Elementary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Plover - Whiting Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/wisconsin/stevens-point-area-public-school-district/plover-whiting-elementary-school/38113"}
